WONDERFUL Inks
I ADORE Dr. Ph. Martin's inks. The colors are true to how hey appear in the bottle (once any sediment has been properly shaken up and suspended), truly waterproof, no fading. The ink doesn't run and bleed everywhere, it works with every nib I've tried (quite a range, every modern leonardt, almost every modern speedball, several others), and almost every paper (anything your nib scratches to bits is obviously out of the question). It is a thicker ink than many others you might find--it flows beautifully, smooth without breaks, but you don't want to, say, leave it in a roundhand nib with a reservoir untouched for ten minutes. It is ink. It will dry.But that just leads me to another plus--it's easy to clean out. Once dry it flakes off nibs at the touch of fingernail, not counting unfortunate grooves. It responds well to nib cleaning solution, abd of course when wet (again, not counting grooves where any ink would get stuck) it wipes right off with paper. I've also found that it come out of my scrap cloth with little effort, but don't go spilling it on your carpet or favorite white shirt and expect it to come out. I just mean that the scrap I use for cleaning isn't blackened from these. They also are wonderful in painting, and again waterproof, so you can do things like soaking a drawing in tea to make it appear aged without worrying about losing the drawing. And so many colors. I have four sets now, and a couple of additional bottles of the colors I use very often (black, blue, red, brown, gold).Really. I cannot recommend these inks enough. If you're not sure that you'll make use of all the colors (though I find that I discover uses once I have them), buying individual bottles is an excellent idea. I'm sure that once you try it you'll be as satisfied as I am. I welcome any questions.

Better than most.
Overall, this set is a very good value. Most of these inks require serious shaking and mixing in order to work well. I found that a plastic fountain pen handle worked well to do this since some have a thick layer of material stuck to the bottom which must be broken up before you can mix the ink. Frustrating, but the result sort of make it ok. Several colors are simply too thick to use nomatter how much you mix. See attached photo where I tested all the colors so you can view the results for yourself. Still, the best writing ink I've found for dip pens is Japanese Sumi ink.

I can't love these inks more.
Sorry, I'm a TRUE fan of this brand. These Inks are awesome, bright colors and amazing pigmentation, I bought both sets, and I'm thrilled to have them at the studio. I started using it immediately they came, and they are great. I was used to use black indian ink for ink washes, and I decided to try the colors, and I can't be more happy.Tip for mixed media painters: These Inks are permanent, if you're used to work with ink washes, these are a great medium to start any mixed media illustration, and set up your values as the underpainting, so if you later want to use gouache over it, you can do it without beaing worried of removing the underpainting. And, they're also amazing for glazing, and of course to paint a full illustration just with it.

These are brilliant colors! A drop goes a long way
These are brilliant colors! A drop goes a long way. They work well on mixed media paper and on photo paper. They do not work well on ceramic tiles and nonporous surfaces because they bead-up. I bought them to use in painting birds. It is a challenge to paint detailed work with alcohol ink, so i had hoped to switch to this medium. I have found that the front of photo paper works well and I have read where other folks like the back of the paper. I have mixed alcohol with the inks and found it to be quite effective and an inexpensive way to make alcohol ink without diluting the gorgeous color. Also, it is supposedly permanent ink; however, if you add alcohol to the ink, it is not. I bought set 1 and set 2. Great for painting my birds in making cards, not in making coasters.
