Masada: Herod's Fortress and the Zealot's Last Stand

I am still reading this book- it's a wonderful account of the archeological history and story behind Masada.

An essential part of every person's library if you want to understand this part of history.

This is one of the more interesting historical events, and I have read several accounts of it. This one added very few new details, but is none-the-less interesting and well written. As with everything of this sort, the accounts do not always agree, and one is left to make up his own mind, often at variance with a particular authors point of view.

This is a bit old fashioned in style, but it IS the book on Masada from the guy who actually dug it out of the desert. Authentic and authoritative, there is no alternative as good
