Worked for about 30 minutes (intermittent use) then died
I had terrible problems actually getting this plasma cutter. The first one got stuck in a UPS void, went back and forth for several days, finally showed as out for delivery, never was delivered. I requested a replacement one, which came from a different location and got to me in two daysI used it over two weekends for about 30 minutes of total cutting time, and it was working really well, until it went "phut" and died. Amazon sent me a replacement. This also went into the UPS void and once again never was delivered. The tracking showed it going back and forth and out for delivery - someone must have found a clever way to steal them.I got fed up waiting for the replacement so I got a refund from Amazon (who are wonderful at handling problems) and placed an order for a LT5000D Lotos 50A Air Inverter Plasma Cutter. It looks almost the same as the Ramsond but has the pressure gauge on the back, and has a different trigger (I found the trigger on the Cut DY uncomfortable to use), so I'm hoping that it does not die too. Also you don't get the extra consumables with the LT unit. (It turned out that this unit is probably the same as the Ramsond unit - see below). I tried contacting Ramsond twice about the problem of the unit dying but they never got back to me. Not a good sign!UPS have a terrible way to handle customer queries. If you want to beat the automation, just press 0 and 0 again to get to a real person. Unfortunately, they appear to be a call center, and only read back what you can already see on the tracking information, and will tell you that it is Out for Delivery, even when you know it is not going to arrive. Friendly, but not very helpful. It seems impossible to actually talk with someone at the local UPS, unless you drive over to the UPS location. If you get a unit that works, do make sure that you add an extra earth/ground cable - connect it to be terminal at the back of the unit, and to a good earth/ground connection, which may help avoid a problem. It must be used to avoid electronic interference called noise, and also if you have a ground connection at your power outlet, but I don't know if it is intended to do more than that. These plasma cutters do cut really well, but I'm concerned about reliability. I hope that the LT unit is not a lemon too.Additional info: I was reading more deeply about these units, and the problems people were having getting the torch to start. It turns out that these units need a touch on bare metal to start them, they are NOT self-starting, and need a clean surface to work on. So rust or paint or any other form of resistance will stop the arc. So you must grind the surface clean before you start cutting. You will also not cut grid metals easily as the torch will stop every time it leaves the metal.I sent the LT5000D back unopened and exchanged it for the LTP5000D LOTOS IGBT Pilot Arc Plasma Cutter 110/220VAC 1/2" Cut with CNC auto cutting feature , which DOES keep the torch ignited on rusty, grid, and possibly even painted, metals. It costs $100 more but I think that the auto starting is well worth the extra money.I see a lot of complaints about the poor manuals and lack of info about cutting. Go the the Millerwelds website and look for plasma cutting tips. Everything you need to know is there, including getting the correct speed to avoid the metal building back under the cut. It will improve your technique and take your plasma cutting to a whole new level.

First One Didn't; Second One Does
I've had a torch on my wish list for a long time. It's not something I need often but every once in a while, a cutter comes in handy around the house. I'll use it for some DIY fab work and for cutting up old metal to make it easier to dispose of. For instance, I had to replace my kid's basketball goal last year the and old one is still in the junk pile out back because I didn't have a good tool to chop it up. I also have an old aluminum ladder in the junk pile that I'll cut up with this machine. I expect it to be very useful around the house in the coming years.I had been looking at the port-a-torch style gas cutters but ran across this plasma cutter that is only a little more expensive than the quality gas cutters and thought I'd get it instead. I'm a Prime customer so I had it delivered next day and was excited to get it in and try it out. Everything was packaged well as others have commented. I spent a few minutes, 20 - 30, wiring it for 110 and installing the air regulator/filter on the back. Next, I connected the cables on the front, plugged it up and flipped the power switch, nothing happened. I fiddled with it, double checking everything but it was just dead. Imagine my frustration. So, knowing that Amazon has a great return policy, even though I've been lucky enough until now to have never needed it, I went online and started the return process. The return form was simple and I opted for a replacement instead of giving up. The UPS man dropped off the replacement and picked up the first one at the same time. I hooked up the replacement and it works great! I had some exhaust pipes I pulled off my classic bronco in the garage that I needed to cut down to get rid of and I used the plasma cutter on those last night and had them cut into small chunks in no time.I have no prior experience with plasma cutters like this so I can't really compare to any others on the market but I was very impressed. It cuts fast and accurate. It starts cutting instantly, unlike a gas torch. Since I just got it up and running, I can't comment on the longevity of the cutter but it does seem to be well made and so far works as expected. I've had a lot of fun with it so far.

Bad Machine - GREAT Customer Service.
I may received a bad unit, but mine did not meet my expectations nor did it cut as the specs state. Before those details, I have to say the Ramsond's customer service was ROCK SOLID!First, the unit was packed well, but the expendables were not individually packaged. They may have been at some point, but the bag they were in was ripped open. They were maintained within the bigger bag of parts. The setup was pretty straight forward. The pressure valve/water separator mounts to the back of the macine. You have to supply your own power plug, either 110 or 220. I wired it to a dedicated 220 outlet. I did notice that the Ramsond case looks identical to the Parker machine that I have.I have a 110 fluorescent light on another circuit. That light flickered off and then back on repeatedly when I used the cutter. I have a Parker "Plasma Tec 40" that does not cause the light problems. The cut itself: I cut 3/8 metal with this, but the result was very poor quality in my opinion. I contacted customer support by email, and they responded very quickly with a couple of checks regarding air pressure settings. I'm posting a couple of pics of both sides of the cut.I informed Ramsomd of the light flickering issue. I don't know if there is a bad ground in the machine or what caused the light to flicker. They immediately arranged for the return of the unit. They sent me a copy of the original shipping label by mistake rather than the RMA label. I called them and within minutes, I had the RMA shipping label. They also processed the refund extremely fast.I am very impressed with the customer support of Ramsond. I was hoping that this unit would replace my older Parker unit with a greater cut capacity. If the machine cuts per the specs, then this machine is worth the money, but for me, this didn't turn out to be the case.
