Great introduction to GIS!
From someone unfamiliar with GIS, this book has provided the necessary foundation for me to apply an understanding of GIS to my job managing GIS software products and services to companies.

Just what I wanted
As a novice at Geographical Information Systems I was looking for a guide that simply explained the technology without being too basic. This book was just what I was looking for.

Excellent Introductory Level GIS book
This book introduces the basic principles of GIS from the perspective of a new user. Topics are covered with enough depth so that the book will also be beneficial to longer-term users. The writing style, graphics and case studies are presented in a simple and easy to read format. The book could be used as a text for a course or read by anyone interested in learning the fundamentals behind GIS technology. There is also a web site for the book that will allow readers access to current trends in GIS and URLs for case studies.

Best organization of all introductory GIS texts
This book has the best organization of all the GIS texts I've read. Other texts have either too little or too much on some topics (especially GIS project management and GIS analysis). This one has an excellent balance. A little more on data sources would have been nice. The British authors use a few terms American students won't recognize, but it reads very well. I'm recommending it right now over other overviews of GIS.

Not stated that it was written in
I bought this from one of the second hand options that Amazon gives you, and yes it was cheaper but it is not the stated quality. Though it was disclosed that the edges are a bit tatty, it was NOT disclosed that there was writing inside. It said specifically that there wasn’t. So either I was misinformed deliberately and this was deemed good enough for the stated quality, or the person checking it was not thorough which would lead me to believe that there could be writing on other pages if the writing was missed on the front inside cover.

Very General
My expectations on buying this book was to receive a good overview of GIS and and what to expect as a creator / user. To be fair each area is identified but the descriptions lacked depth and are a little verbose with a lot of space is taken with examples. If you are after a book that starts to engage you with the detail of designing or seriously using GIS this may not be the one for you. If you want an overview with examples of applications, and to be made aware of the key words & jargon, I think this will meet your requirements.

A comprehensive introduction to GIS indeed...
Even for me - a drone developer - this book has a lot to offer. I initially chose it to provide me with a background knowledge for one of the purposes of our product. Having "flicked" through it I became fascinated and it became a bedside companion for a week or two. A fascinating subject for a layman; for the student, or tyro, it might be essential...

This is the one to get...
....but only if you're a complete nerd! Its got everything and more that you could ever want to know. I doubt you'll ever read it unless GIS is a major factor in your life or research.

Don't think I would have passed without this book!
I used this book as an environmental science degree student and found it helpful as a reference text for my studies.
