Lifesavers - How To Use and How it Works
I’m going to keep this as simple as I can - if you are taking painkillers with opiates, or you know someone who is and may accidentally “double dose”, or otherwise overdose - or anyone who may take street drugs (including benzodiazepines and even “uppers” which can often be laced with fentanyl or other synthetic opiates for cheap effectiveness) then make sure you have this product and know how to use it. If a person is unresponsive after taking drugs legal or otherwise, use one of these two nasal sprays on them. Here’s a rough guide. If it’s for another person: Step one: Call an ambulance and tell them you have an unresponsive person who’s taken drugs and you suspect overdose. Step two: Apply the nasal spray as indicated on the box - tell the ambulance staff on the phone that you’re applying it. Step three: Wait a maximum of 3 minutes to see if they respond (come round) - if they don’t, use the second spray. If the person comes round: they may become distressed or angry, they may feel ill if it’s a chronic problem – encourage them to stay calm. They may attempt to take further drugs, stop them. Vital Note: explain that the naloxone will wear off after 20-30 minutes and they may go back into overdose. This isn’t a cure it’s a temporary measure until emergency services can arrive. Give the used sprays to the ambulance crew. If you are the person who’s overdosed: Classic signs, slow heart rate, dizziness, slow breathing, blurred vision , slurred speech and extreme sleepiness etc. Step one: Call an Ambulance and tell them you think you’ve overdosed. Lay on your left side (the recovery position) in case you lose consciousness. Step Two: Take the first spray and wait a few minutes, it will likely make you feel as if you want to take more drugs (it’s an opioid reversal, it can send you into instant withdrawal but a small price to pay to save your life) DO NOT take any further drugs. IF the first spray does not relieve the symptoms then take the second spray. Always inform emergency services that you have taken Naloxone. Step Three: Stay on the phone to the ambulance crew, if you are inside try to unlock the door, if you are outside try and move so you are visible to the ambulance. Return to the recovery position after. If the first dose seems to be wearing off and you feel the overdose symptoms come back - take the second spray and tell them on the phone. If you are alone try and flag someone down for help in case you lose consciousness. Just try and fight to stay awake, your life may depend on it. This product is effective - it reverses the effect of opioids FAST and is responsible for saving lives every day. Whether it’s an elderly patient who forgot they’ve already taken their medication or someone who’s taken something bought online or from the streets. HOWEVER - it doesn’t work for long, 20-30 minutes and it begins to wear off, and your blood still contains the drugs you’ve taken before, Naloxone doesn’t destroy them or reduce them, so when it wears off you can go back into overdose. This drug is intended to give you a time window in which you can call for emergency services. Always tell them that you’ve taken it and always make sure you have these handy if you do take opioids (even prescribed, mistakes happen a lot) Important note: It doesn’t matter if you haven’t taken an opioid drug - if you have taken a benzodiazepine, pregabalin, any kind of drug whatsoever that was not prescribed - it could be laced with synthetic opioids. So if you suspect an overdose EVEN FROM OTHER DRUGS - take Naloxone! It has absolutely no effect on Benzos or other drugs, it is an opioid reversal agent and won’t make other overdoses worse. It is not harmful to take Naloxone for overdoses of other drugs, if the drug responsible is laced with synthetic opioids then the spray will save your life. If it’s not, you just took a spray and won’t notice the difference. It doesn’t interfere with any other drugs. Always be careful about what you take - if you take drugs not prescribed then it may be wise to use the ANONYMOUS service “WEDINOS” - send a small sample of the drug, with a completed form in the post, and they will analyse it and post the results on their website, just type in your WEDINOS reference number (randomly generated when you download a form) and see what you’re really taking - you’d be amazed how many times drugs that look real, are laced with synthetic opiates because they’re cheap, and effective. Finally - if you take drugs or know anyone who does, always carry these around (both). If they pass the expiration date, they can still be useful in emergencies - but it’s best to order another box. Basically this is a product you hope you’ll never need - but if you do, it may just save your life, or someone else’s. Always carry some with you, always try to be sure about what you or others are taking (WEDINOS is your best bet) and if you’re taking something, wait an hour to see how it effects you before taking anything else, dosages of street pills can vary so wildly that you can take one tablet that’s weak, then take a second that’s strong and equivalent to 10 or more of the weak ones. (This is due to poor mixing during pill pressing etc) Be safe everyone - I hope you never need to use these but if you do, stay calm and try to follow the steps - and step one is always to call an ambulance. They’ll guide you through the rest. Stay safe, keep these with you.
