Very much outdated, will not help you pass CHFI
Very much outdated, will not help you pass CHFI, to compare it with the official study guide we are comparing 300s pages vs 1100 pages. There are so many concepts missing in this book, that if this is the only material used to study, you will simply fail. I failed the exam the first try, then used the official book and passed :). Good luck everyone

Overview of the New CHFI Study Guide 2014.
Updated Review 23 DEC 2014I just passed the exam with a 98% yesterday and it did not come from reading this book or taking the practice exam questions (300). I read the book after taking the official training course through AMU in Digital Forensics which uses the 5 CHFI books from EC Council and conducts actual labs within each college course. On top of that, I reviewed the official training videos (CHFI v8) and took notes in each Objective on the corresponding bullet. I took screen shots and research each area of every objective point and copied it into a word.doc to study from. That is what taught me to learn each objective and the various elements that come into play with the CHFI arena. This book may be good in a college class teaching Computer Forensics - but it will not aid in taking the exam. If I had relied on this book alone, I would have failed. My other sources beyond this book is what allowed my to pass. Stick with EC Council's official training platform, since this is where the exam questions come from. The exam is straight forward, not like Security+ with simulations, but you have to understand why the right answer is the right one. One must be very aggressive in learning each objective covering CHFI.This book is really "watered down" or lacking in areas that are extremely important to understand within the CHFI exam. It is well written and easy to read, but not for exam prep. I spent $600 to take the exam ($100 application fee + $500 exam), this is a "no joke" exam and failing it would be costly! At the moment, this is the most recent book out covering CHFIv8 beyond the official training material. Stick with the official training material and do your online research, training on your computer, etc...Initial Review:I recently purchased the newly issued CHFI Exam Guide (ISBN: 978-0-07-183156-70) to prepare for my upcoming examination from Amazon. So far, I am still going through each chapter and updating my study sheet on each objective using this book. I've made it up to Chapter 9.I have found several errors I would like to report.Error 1:On pg 115, there is a misspelled word."Linux boot rprocess" - there is a "r" in front of the word "process".Error 2:When using the Objective Guide at the front of the book on page xxv, the page numbers do not correspond correctly with the page numbers within the actual Chapter.Chapter 6 covers multiple Exam objectives. Objective 7.4 should have page 99, not 162.Likewise, the following have been corrected for you by listing the Objective number followed by the page;7.5 - 977.6 - 1007.7 - 112 / 1157.8 - 1067.9 - 1067.10 - 106-1097.11 - 1037.12 - 1057.13 - 109Error 3.6.12 Objective on pg xxxi is missing - it's on pg 207.There might be more errors, but I wanted to inform everyone of these corrections before you order.I finished all five of the CHFI Official books that are written and published by EC Council - they were used in five different courses at American military University for the Digital Forensics certificate (18 Sem Hrs).Since I have both my CompTIA A+ and Security+, I always use several sources of study, this being one of them.I think the author could have done a better job of researching each Objective and presented the information in a way that is more straight forward. I find the Exam Cram books to be organized in such a fashion and is up to the student to finish the application of such information to take in the total understanding. This book is NOT that way. The Objectives are not in order within the Chapters and some bounce back and forth. What would also be helpful is a clear identification of the Objective number next to the information so the reader is not trying to identify what goes where.I am writing each objective number next to the info it corresponds to. I am also filling in the blanks of each objective on a Word doc. as a quick reference guide to study from as well. I did this both for A+ and Security+ and had no problem with a first time pass foe each.Hope this review is helpful. If there are any more mistakes, I will try to update this post.

A must have
A complete and clear reference to digital forensics with both theoretical topics and real world scenarios. A must have for DF newbies and a useful handbook for experts.
