I'd highly recommend for kids over 5
Very detailed and informative book that helped me tell my 5 and 7 year old that we're having a baby. A little too long and drawn out for my 5 year old so she was being silly eventually and wouldnt pay attention but it made my 7 year old ask more questions so she learned a lot and couldn't stop talking about it. She even carried the book around a couple days to read it and strike up more conversation about the pregnancy. Awesome book to have but I think kids under 5 would be easily bored and confused by it. Words like "sperm" and "vagina" popped up and my husband and I gave each other a shocked look as my daughter read on. I don't think we were ready to discuss those type of details but it was educational none the less.

Great book for kids
My son is almost 6 and asking lots of questions about where babies come from etc. Of course, I want to be honest with him BUT at 5 years old, he does not need to know every detail of how I got pregnant. This book satisfied his curiosity, answered his questions and was informative without being TOO informative.

i like it. time will tell if my 2 year old does.
i read the book as soon as i got it because i wanted to see what the hubbub was about. i don't get the hubbub.i bought this book for my 2 year old because of the books that i had already gotten about having a new baby, they all just sort of gloss over the pregnancy part like it doesn't comprise a huge portion of the year. i wanted a way to illustrate for him why i'm not feeling well. he just turned 2, he's very active, and i'm not always up for it. it's also hard to explain to him something that is such an abstract concept. i also feel that knowledge helps us accept, and it's going to be kind of weird when my tummy keeps getting bigger.the book is short, concise, age appropriate, and doesn't dumb it down. it shows pictures of the baby growing, uses technical terms without being graphic, and in general lays out the process pretty well.i can only imagine that the parents who complained that the book is too graphic are the types to refer to genitalia as a "pee pee and a poo poo" or some other cutesie name, or a very generalized "down there". my son is 2 and has known that he has a penis and where it is for some time now, and i have no problem with the one time that the book mentions a vagina because i have one. i've used the word around him, and at some point he'll realize that the reason why i don't stand to go potty is because i have a vagina and not a penis, and that those differences (biologically speaking, as transgender is another breed of beast) make me a girl and him a boy.if you don't do your children the service of giving them proper names for their genetalia (proper names help them assert themselves should they ever happen to be sexually abused) then don't get the book. tell them fairy tales about storks or cabbage patches and leave them confused. if you respect your children and talk to them like they are humans, this should be a good book.the only thing that i have to do now is see if my son will let me read it to him because at the moment he really only wants to read alphabet books and books with vehicles in them.

5 year old jealous daughter loved it!
my daughter has been an only child for the past 5 years. i am currently 37 weeks pregnant and as my pregnacy progressed so did her jealousy. she never wanted to talk about the baby and got upset when anyone tried to talk to her about being a big sister. well i got this book and not only did she sit still and really listen, she asked question and really enjoyed it. she has asked me to read it to her many times. I just wish i knew about this book sooner! it's a really wonderful book! it uses real words like uterus and vagina. my daughter was very interest in the part that explains the umbilical cord. all in all it's a GREAT BOOK!!!

Not what I expected
It’s only okay. I bought this for a toddler, but definitely meant for older kids. It’s complex. The title and cover was a little misleading. But I think it’d be a great book for someone who is 6 years old or older.

Excellent Explanations!
This is one of my step-daughter's favorite books now as she is excited for us to make a baby brother or sister for her. This book is also great for conversation around where she came from and how she was born. As a family in the medical industry (doctor and executive) we have always used the proper words for anatomy and liked very much how the book explained things because it was nearly identical to what we already told her. The book covers questions that kids will ask and a couple that I didn't think to explain like how baby eats while its in the uterus. Great book and educational tool!

This book
Way to graphic and words that shouldn't be used for small children

Nice book
Great book but definitely more advanced. It went way over my 2.5 year olds head.Maybe best for age 5 and up

Esta bien
Si no quieres explicar mucho a tu hijo, pues no compras este libro. Pero si quieres que todas las repuestas estan dado a tu hijo, pues este es el libro adecuado. A mi hija le gusta tambien.

Really good story to explain to about to be older siblings
Think this would be age dependent though, my 4 1/2 yr old loved it. I may have adjusted some of the language regarding how babies are made and how they get out as thought that was a step too far but the rest of the book was very well positioned

I got this book to use for a photo session ...
I got this book to use for a photo session with my dog for a baby announcement, as was pleasantly surprised at the information inside of it too! It is detailed, direct and gives a lot of information to curious children about the changes that will happen to Mommy.
