Does the vanilla almond have chocolate in it? I can't have if it does.

Do these have that strange gritty texture?

They are somewhere between soft & crunchy. They are not smooth like a candy bar. They can crumble a little, but they are not gritty at all. I like them so much I often freeze them so I don't devour them so quickly. They're delicious, & often tide me over between light meals, or when I don't have time to eat a regular breakfast. I hope you give them a try. :) jlp

When does the product expire?

There is always an expiration date printed on the box or the wrapping. The bars don't go bad for a long time after that date though. It's just what the manufacturer estimates is the last date the bar will retain all of its flavor and nutrition. I don't know whether protein and the other ingredients break down or not, but I've got some bars that are 3 months past exp date and they're fine.
