Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the '80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a mesmerizing journey through the splendour of old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means and what it costs to face the truth. Review: BEST read - Best book ever in my entire life! Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. The words used in the novel is really descriptive, therefore easy to imagine the situation. Very beautifully put together! Review: i need to cry it out - Reading the this while on a train to see my fave kpop is a mistake I will not regret. Evelyn Hugo is Evelyn Hugo. I admire her for what she’s done, both the good and bad, to get what she want and to protect her family. Kelangan ko ng matindihang pagpag after nito.

I am not sure I like it
What can I say.. It was easy and intriguing reading. However I don’t like Monique character. I was waiting for the moment when Evelyn will explain how she is connected to Monique and it was done only in the last 10 pages … Also too much lgbt cover So I am not sure I liked what I have read.

(2021 – 98th Book) A mysterious story of beautiful and tragic love
The editorial department of 《Vivant》 receives an offer for an exclusive interview from Evelyn Hugo, the great Hollywood actress of the past. However, there was one condition. The interview must be conducted by Monique, a first-year writer. If this condition is not accepted, the interview will be cancelled. Monique, however, had no idea of the connection with Evelyn. Why did the great actress ask for her as the interviewer? The magazine accepts her request, and Monique goes to Evelyn's apartment on a regular basis. She learns why Evelyn has been married seven times and that there is a secret behind it. At the same time, the sad reason that she was chosen as an interviewer is also revealed. ...... --------------------------- I was intrigued by the fact that many BookTubers in US were praising this best-selling novel, and since there seemed to be no plans for a Japanese translation, I decided to order the paperback. The language in which the book is written is so plain that I had no trouble reading it. The story moves along at a brisk pace, and my hand never stops turning the pages. No wonder it became a bestseller in the US. First of all, the fact that Evelyn has been married seven times is a good story for most gossip lovers. Speculation, conjecture, envy, jealousy, and condemnation swirled in and out of Hollywood. However, what started out as a woman's ambition to use marriage as a springboard to success in the movie industry, eventually became a beautiful and sad love story as the story behind the marriage was revealed bit by bit.: The story of Evelyn's repeated marriages to protect her relationship with "the one" she truly loved. The story reveals how America has been making a slow but steady progress in the half-century between the late 1950s and the early 21st century. I was also struck by the skill and beauty of the storytelling, and gasped when it was revealed later that the reason why Monique was appointed as the interviewer, another major mystery in the novel, intersected with Evelyn's life in a surprising way. When a mystery is revealed in a way that greatly betrays the reader's expectations and predictions, I feel unsettled because I am confronted with the fact that I, the reader, have been blind. This novel made me feel that unsettled feeling strongly as well as comfortably. I read an article that the film rights for this novel have already been purchased and are being considered for realization. I wonder who will play Evelyn and who will play "the one". I'm really looking forward to it. .
