Dude, I’m not laughing with you, I’m laughing AT you
John is not a very likeable person in most of these vignettes. As a result, the funniest story by far is when you picture him sitting on the toilet in a corporate jet, for once humiliated himself instead of dishing it out. Otherwise he comes off as an entitled elitist rich boy who never outgrows his immature prep school ways and squanders his career. Other reviews hint at proven exaggerations after fact checking, and he himself name drops several times that he was later hired as an MD by Goldman Sachs... conveniently omitting that although offered, it fell through and he never actually worked for GS. So add embellisher to the list. Not surprising then that he was assigned to the second tier markets of Europe and Asia, not in New York with the true masters of the universe. Maybe being a coked up, blackout drunk does limit one’s career. My other complaint was how he openly disparaged Filipino women as little brown love monkeys, and yet he was too afraid to print the punch line to a joke about Blacks which he himself didn’t even tell.On the positive side, I did find one or two of his tweets at the start of every chapter pretty funny. Finally, it would have been nice to end the book less abruptly. No brief update on the rest of his career, certainly no reflection on what he did and what he learned from it. You know he’s smart enough to realize what a jerk he was, yet there are no apologies and one senses he would do it all over again.

Funny big but probably fictional
The book is really entertaining. All the deviance that are said about Wall Street is thoroughly pictures here. I did some research on the author and found some articles where they had done fact checks and interviews with his colleagues. Looks like fiction and exaggeration played a major role during the writing process. For example, one debunked story was the fight with Manchester United squad in Hong Kong. Based on the information the author provides about the deal he was working on when the fight happened, the timeline would suggest 2006. Apparently Manchester United never had any Hong Kong tour in 05, 06 or 07.But all in all, it's a very funny and entertaining read, which would probably make a good movie too.

350 pages of debauchery
This book is laugh at loud hilarious on every page. Who would have thought that John could have gone through so many bags of cocaine on a random Tuesday? The storytelling is excellent.I would be interested to know how much the austerity (fake or otherwise) of the financial crisis has changed banking culture since John left the business and started peddling his sock startup.

just ok
The book was somewhat entertaining and I guess a little informative (I did learn quite a bit about international finance) but not as entertaining as expected. This book was a good diversion from the crisis situation currently going on around us but after I finished it, I said to myself "is that all there is?" I don't really like to compare books and authors but The Wolf Of Wall Street was a much better read.

A riot to read.
Let's be real. This isn't a classic. This isn't literature. It's entertainment. But is it ever entertaining! I read this book quickly on a trip and couldn't help but laughing throughout out loud. Don't believe half of it, but the likely embellished stories are definitely a riot and worth the read.

The worst part about this book was that it ended
The title is appropriate. The worst part about this book was that it ended. I could not put it down, and was entertained throughout. This even pushed my curiousity further into the business and other books of this nature.Glad I bought it, and I hope he writes more.

I was hoping for more substance.
The Title reflects the book. I was hoping for more true substance on the behind the scenes high finance.Instead, got tales of drinking, and messing around...like the Title says!

Hilarious and obnoxious
By way of background, prior to reading I had seen the Wolf of Wall Street film but had not read Liars Poker or the myriad of other books on the excesses of the financial world pre 2008. I enjoyed the larrikin-esque story-telling and the walk-throughs of office life in a big Asian investment bank. It's an empty plot with no real beginning or ending, but a humorous and easy read. I quiet enjoyed the GSE tweet intertwined too. Would recommend if you like/are not fed up with these kinds of Wall Street baller narratives.

A great quick, humorous read providing an insight into the after hours of high finance
Straight to Hell proved to be an incredibly fun, easy read, at multiple points it made me laugh out loud.John LeFevre has an innate ability to draw you in and immerse you in the environment he's telling you about, his ability mixed in with tales of drugs, debauchery and investment banking makes for a truly unique reading experience. If you're after a serious, informative read about investment banking, this is not a book you will enjoy. However, if you're after a lighthearted book essentially full of alcohol-fueled anecdotes from a career in high finance then you'll have a great time. It's worth noting that to fully enjoy the book you probably want a basic knowledge of banking, there's no need to have anywhere near semi-professional knowledge, but a basic familiarity with basic terms and concepts would probably make it far more enjoyable.

Buy this book
I found this book so hilarious that this purchase was for a second one to gift to my father at Christmas. Cannot think of when I have read a funnier book. It is not suitable for children, as the stories are very improper, but that is just what makes it funny. This book gives a true glimpse in to how banking used to be - unfortunately the stories do not happen these days, with all the scrutiny in the sector. I would suggest categorising this as a history book of how London once was.

Brilliant. Such observations as only an insider could make
Brilliant. Such observations as only an insider could make, and made with a cynical and very humourous slant. Well worth the cost. A thoroughly good listen, but be prepared for the " basic" areas of language.

Tedious
While at first this book shocks, it could have been half the length. It quickly becomes tedious and boring, becoming a real slog to finish.
