I wasn't looking for a high quality basil essential oil (EO). I only want to deter ants by smearing it around a window sill. Actually, I MEANT to get bay leaf EO, but screwed up. That's a different story. LOL I've had good results and DO recommend bay leaf EO for deterring ants. We'll see how this accidental EO order fares against ant scent trails! So yeah, I knew I wasn't getting high quality EO because of the low price for a large amount, and I was okay with that for my intended purpose. What I was surprised by is that it's made from Thai basil, not sweet basil. Thai basil has a more anise, black licorice scent profile. I HATE that smell... That said, maybe the ants do, too? Fingers crossed! To me, this EO smells like anise + patchouli + green herb. It's a weird scent about which you'd never think, "Hey, that's basil!" A little honesty on the label would be nice. There's nothing wrong with Thai basil, but I think in the U.S., most people buying basil EO are expecting the smell of sweet basil, and so the type of basil should be listed in the ingredient list.

This oil is great! It is a spicier type basil, but overall mellow and herby. I use it on scent sticks in my kitchen and bathroom because it blends nicely and basil is supposed to have bug-repellent properties (though not as strong a mint or rosemary). It is so difficult to find basil oil! I had bought some sachet from Amazon on here, but it was $18 for a small pack of three that did not smell nearly as nice as this large bottle of basil oil. I will definitely be buying this again in the future, so it may be a year or two since this bottle is very large for the price and will last a while. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a pleasant herbal scent besides lavender, sage, or mint. Itโs mellow and unobtrusive. Love it!

The product was packaged well. That is why they get 2 stars. The scent was okay and not strong at all. I bought this to make soap. I needed 3.75 oz for that I was making. When I set up my scale to measure the oils I put the bowl on the scale. Set to Oz and Tared the scale. -I have been making soap for 20 years and know how to weigh my oils. I was surprised that the bottle was only 3.5 OZ. When poured into the bowl, I had completely emptied the original container i just got 3.5 oz of fluid. Even after shaking the bottle like a mad woman. The second bottle was more like 3.33oz. I am glad I bought an extra bottle. I was able to finish my soap. But I don't think I will buy from this company again. 3 bottles of Rosemary and they were shorted as well. 2 bottles of Peppermint and both were short about .5 oz each. I just got my 2 bottles of Lemon, and we shall see about them this weekend. FYI, if you are buying to make soap, Peppermint and Rosemary EOs do cause seizing so work quickly. -Not brand related. Just the nature of the EOs. So, bring to light trace and hand stir in the EO and rush to get in your molds.

The basil smell is no good. It smells like a combination of chemicals, licorice, cigarettes, and hints of gym locker. It also made me a little light headed when it was in my diffuser. I had company come over and they were also repulsed by the smell. I have the door open trying to air the house out now. The ginger smells like dog food. It smells like when you open a fresh bag of old roy.

I read online that the venom in a brown recluse spider bite can be cancelled out by applying Basil Oil to the bite. I do a lot of research online about subjects that interest me, so I thought some might be interested in knowing this information. I am glad Amazon sells it.
