This rescue cutter is an incredible little tool that can rip and tear almost anything (that fits under the hook) apart in an instant. The only product that you can really compare this to is the smaller Benchmade 5 hook, both of which are at the top of all strap and cloth cutters. As I said at the beginning of the review, there is really no other tool you can fairly compare it to besides other Benchmade rescue hooks because all other rescue cutters and hooks lack the quality and the functionality of the Benchmade tools.

I bought this as part of my EDC gear. Holy moly this thing is sharp. It slices through everything like a hot knife through butter. It's well built, comfortable to hold and use, and razor sharp. The size works perfectly for EDC since it's compact design makes it smaller than rescue shears.

this hook is very good for the prepared civilian, LEO's, and military. the handle provided good grip and the gimping is exelant. the molle compatible sheath attached both to my pack and my vehicle. the blade comes sharp and cuts thru strapping, para-cord and a cotton t shirt easily. however if you a a medical first responder i think that the model five would be a better match because it gives you an oxygen bottle wrench as well. that said, for the designed purpose it preforms flawlessly as so far and tryst it to get me out if need be.

Love this thing. Cuts rope like butter. As a test I went through 6 strands of 1/4" MFP and it cut with just a pull. No sawing, no rubbing, not struggling. Quick and simple...and almost impossible to cut yourself with. Be wary around children - their fingers WILL fit in the cutting groove...but then again kids shouldn't be playing with this.

It is a very high quality piece and is exactly as advertised. If fits in my hand very comfortably. The blade is very sharp and it appears that it will easily cut through my 3" safety harness material. I use two of these in my desert race car. One is attached to the co-driver's shoulder harness and one is attached to the driver's harness. I will order two more and mount them to the roll cage where they are easily accessable to emergency personnel.

I'm not an EMT, so I don't need to cut the clothing off accident victims very often. You really need to ask those people how much they like this. It seems useful, if your bandage scissors aren't available, or in cases when you really need to tear through straps and belts. But, for all its "sharpness" and ergonomics, I haven't really put it through enough of a trial to know how well it performs in the field. It's sturdy, tough looking and pretty sharp. The angle of the blade and handle will be better for some people than others. It's going to take serious hand strength in some situations, to get this to work.

I work in a jail, no knives allowed. This little beauty works like a charm from removing tough plastic wristbands, to cutting sheets and towels down. Only thing that kept me from a 5 star was no choice of sheath color, mine arrived tan. I made it "sharpie" black.**UPDATE**An Inmate was in "Medial distress." I used this hook knife to remove his uniform. Collar to Pant Cuff, through waistband and all. I had the inmate out of his uniform in under 45 seconds. Great product.

Easily the best thing I have put on my belt. It will cut through anything. Great investment you will not be unsatisfied, not just for seat belts either, it cuts clothing, side airbags, Med bag seals, anything that you can get the sharp end on. this one is the perfect size, the 8-MED is too long and the 5 & 6 feel to small in your hand & are hard to work with gloves on. this is the one you want, Buy It!
