A good book for a long voyage
'The Death Ship' by William Clark RussellIf only the last chapter of the book reflected the pace and tension of the earlier chapters, I would have given it 5 stars.I am a WCR addict and devour his books because of his literary style. However, I found this epic tale a slow and laborious read. For much of the book, the story wallows at sea with very little happening. This is the incredible tale of a man rescued from the sea and taken aboard the cursed ship – The Flying Dutchman – and of Captain Vanderdecken and his crew. The descriptions of the souls aboard and the ship itself, which has been trying to round Cape of Good Hope for 150 years, are remarkable. How Clark Russell imagined all this and described it in such detail is amazing. The narrative is totally believable.Apart from my criticism of the book’s verbosity, I commend the author, as always, on his writing style and use of language.

A great read
A little lengthy in flowing description of the weather, etc. Overall very good if you enjoy seafaring tales. Well worth it.

Boring.
Bad version of "Kidnapped", "Treasure Island" and "Seven Years at the Mast" style writing.
