Idol Lies: Facing the Truth About Our Deepest Desires

This is the second book by Dee Brestin that I have read in the last year or so. Her teaching is biblically sound, full of scripture and challenges the reader to continue to pursue a deep relationship with Christ. You don’t have to watch the videos but I feel that they helped to cement the lessons in my heart & mind.

I believe something hides inside me that wrong belief, but in Bible, Love for anything first God that gives life! But this Book me know what is wrong ways I belief and how can go to belief in right ways

I have read many Christian books for women and not one has been as life changing as Idol Lies. One thing that sets Dee's book apart from the others is her honest humility in sharing her own struggles. From page one, you are drawn in to her personal journey. She introduces women with struggles we can all relate to. But most importantly, with empathy and grounded biblical insight, she guides readers to the Truth that sets us free. Idol Lies aids the reader in identifying the hidden idols that we have become so comfortable with we don't even recognize as idols. She helps us see how these idols are not the "friends" to our soul we think they are, but are hindrances to the life we were created for. Dee points readers to the path of freedom and living life for our One True Love. This book shook up my heart and challenged my thinking, and ultimately filled me with hope and a deeper love for Christ.

Dee Brestin does a remarkable job of uncovering the idol lies that we believe. By uncovering these lies, one who truly wants to be set free can be. It won't be an easy task and I love her honesty in saying just that. It's not a one, two, three steps to happiness book, which don't work anyway, but it's a book for the individual who truly wants to be set free to live the life God created for them. I'm amazed that Dee is not one of the #1 speaker for Bible Studies. She's ever good as Beth Moore or any of the other top Christian speakers. I highly recommend this book to anyone and it's important to do the study at the end with someone to truly be set free. I'm working on lots of issues and slowly I'm seeing changes in myself. I'm very glad I discovered this book.

This is an especially good book and study for those "mature" (have known and been in church circles for awhile) Christians. It is an ugly and revealing journey of our mind, heart and soul. Yet there is hope, healing and restoration for us and ALL the areas of our life back to the One who truly loves us and gave Himself for us.Thank you, Lord, for Your great and unfailing love. Bless each person in this book for their willingness to be used to Your glory by humbly sharing their life of idolatry, repentance and restoration back to true and holy worship of You. Loved this book and the message of falling in love with Jesus. Really getting past my idols of approval and comfort to really caring what Jesus wants for my life. I have always told my kids "God's way isn't always the easiest but it is always the best way!" I have learned this with the passing of years but not until I really grasped how much God loves me.Dee's book helps you to strip away the trappings of Christian life to the essential of being a hooked in and alive Christian. She is so open and honest at looking at herself, Dee shows the way to go deeper and to fall in love with Jesus. This is a book I feel will be coming out of my library at least once a year to renew and revive me.

Idol Lies is a work force of action digging deep into the soul. It exposes the junk within that hinders my freedom from the bondage of the way I live and communicate with others. This is a work in progress, I have not completed the study but have nothing but good awareness of self and idols. I am being set free from my moral decay, letting go of self importance & grasping a closer walk with my savior. Life is looking brighter everyday as I work this exposure of lies that have been controlling my behaviors and misery.

I have read, re-read and am reading again this wonderful book loaded with truth about my most inward troubles. It's the best "therapy" I've ever had and answered questions I've carried around for decades about why I do the self-destructive things I do, why I can't/don't lose weight, why I struggle in relationships, why I feel "less than" so often, etc. I really didn't see the spiritual problem that lies deep within; what a relief there is in the truth. I'm so grateful to God and to Dee Brestin for her ministry in writing this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants answers to "why" they are struggling and striving and still unhappy or just not living life in a way that they know it was meant to be. For a black-and-white thinker like me, this was an eye-opener. Worth every penny!
