I don't know how old the broken bell was, but the house was built in 1889 so you get the idea. There is a real charm with these old crank doorbells and this one is prettier than what it replaced and quite sturdy. It was maybe a 15 minute replacement as the outside crank is rectangular and what it replaced was round and I had to chisel a bit around the exterior round wood base to make it look nice. But it looks nice and sounds nice - assuming your visitors know what the knob is for, which is about half-half in my experience.

I live in a 100 year old house and this goes perfectly with the aesthetic. Gorgeous and functional.

This doorbell was easy to install and looks great! No batteries or wiring required, it's all mechanical and is the perfect addition to our front door. Bell is loud enough to hear upstairs but is not an obnoxious sound (both my cat and dog are fine with it).

I have been looking for such a mechanical bell for about a year, and while the antique options offer authenticity , the price tags for them run about $ 200-300 on Ebay. Lord knows if they are even functional. I feel lucky that I came across this beauty and let me tell you, this is a nice, hefty piece. I had it unboxed and installed in less than minutes. All you need is a drill and a screwdriver. The novelty of this thing is incredible and has been wowing our visitors every time. The sound of the bell is absolutely classic. BONUS: My dogs do not equate this ringing sound with visitors which means no more noisy barking every time someone rings the door bell! I highly recommend this item! I may purchase a second one for my side door!

I love this doorbell. I think it looks pretty and it's really heavy duty. The sound is loud enough to hear but not annoying. It's really fun to ring!

We put this on the original front door of our 1899 Victorian and it works great and looks beautiful. Since there had been a similar (long since stopped functioning) doorbell there before, we didn't need to drill any holes. Super-easy to install! The ringer is loud as well, I can hear it all the way in the back of the house.
