Larger Size works Great for Me
This is a countertop Compost Pail, but since it is as large as it is, I keep mine on a stool under the end of the island overhang. It's handy close to the sink, out of the way, and still looks good there. It holds a lot but still needs to be emptied every 2-3 days with a garden and all the fresh produce coming in from it, and that is just starting. It will continue into October, and then I expect it will barely be used again until April. At first, I had tried using a composting BioBag in it, but it began to disintegrate almost immediately from the high moisture content. Instead, I now drop an ice cream bucket into the pail, easily removed, taken to the compost pile and emptied, washed, and replaced each time. The charcoal filter keeps it from having any odor, and it is very easy to maintain and wash out before replacing the inner bucket.

Finally a bigger capacity pail
This is perfect. I fill up the compost fast and wanted a larger one. Specifically, a metal one that did not have any logos. UPDATE. No reply from customer service as to where I can get the right replacement filters for this. Frustrating

One of our best kitchen purchases!
Absolutely love this pail. We were given small plastic pails by our city's refuse/recycle program but the lid never fit well and the thing was a bit of an eyesore so not something that we wanted on our counter. After putting up with it for a year we saw something like this at a friends and decided to research what was available. The slightly larger 1.5 gallon size seemed perfect for us based on how much we compost weekly, and as it turns out this size was perfect for our family. We find that lining it with old newspapers works great and the size difference between the lid and pail that some reviewers complained about seems to be a well thought out feature as it allows you to line the pail with news paper or use plastic liners. If it were tighter you could not do this. For those thinking of buying plastic liners, we found that our local jurisdiction does not allow the use of Biodegradable Plastic Bags for some reason. In hind sight we also found that the appearance of neatly arranged news paper liners actually looks far better with the stainless steel compost pail. The green plastic bags somehow detracted far more from the appearance of the pail than the news paper.

Can This Can Handle It?
As we did not want a "garbage can look" on our kitchen counter, we bought the RSVP International Jumbo Compost Pail, 1.5 gallon size, with "under the sink" in mind. It looks great THERE. Going up from the more traditional 1-gallon size, this pail's advantage is fewer trips to the compost outside. It's easy to clean and offers a filter on the inside of the pail cover as well. One caveat, however: After only three weeks use, I took it outside, inverted it to empty the contents, and discovered that the screw holding the left side of the handle had popped out. Lucky for me, both screw and nut fell into the pail and did not disappear in a pile of grass clippings, melon skins, apple cores, coffee grounds, egg shells, (etc.). You might not be as lucky.Moral? The handle construction might be the Achille's heel of this product. If you buy it, check the screws on the handles for tightness, then recheck them periodically. Beyond that, we've been nothing but pleased.

Very sturdy and well made
We've had this for a number of years now and love it. It's nice enough looking to keep right on the kitchen counter, yet there is no odor thanks to the replaceable charcoal filters. The lid can be a little tricky to clean, but the pail is easy to clean. Very well made; expect it last for at least another decade.

Good investment!
Have been using this container for two weeks and love it. It holds a lot of scraps. The handle is very sturdy. The filters really work to keep gnats out. The lid is also secure but easy to open. I know it’s a pot with a lid...but it’s far superior than the bowl with a not secure lid I was using.

nice size, but the lid doesn't fit tightly
I was looking for a pail that was attractive enough to sit on the counter but large enough to reduce the trips to the compost bin (I have the compostumbler...highly recommended). I had a ceramic pail before but found it too small and heavy, and a hassle to clean. This one works well, and would get 5 stars were it not for the fact that the lid doesn't seal. I don't know if that's a design problem or if I just got a bad one, but it's a problem because it allows tiny fruit flies to get in. But I haven't seen another one this size, so I'll stick with it.
