Q: are you serious, $48.65 for shipping? WHY?

It’s a very large box - but if you are a prime member it’s free shipping.

Q: $48.65 for shipping? That nearly doubles the cost and makes your product much more expensive than other offers.

I am a prime member so there is no shipping cost.

Q: do they come with a UPC?

yes, but it is all zeros. the only other description is "one dozen eggs"

Q: Can these cartons be split in half for 6 eggs?

Yes I have successfully cut them in half for 1/2 dozen cartons. Overall a good carton for the price. Just do not get them wet as they are a recycled product they will fall apart very easily if they are allowed to get wet.
