This is not a paid-endorsement, nor have I received anything as an inducement. These were bought with my own money and after reviewing other people’s comments. This is a review of the King Oscar Spanish Style Sardines in Olive Oil. ### Wow. I have had a lot of sardines since we’ve been at home most of the year. I like the taste and health benefits of sardines, and I have tried most of the premium ones (Nuri, Santo Amaro, Matiz, Wild Planet ... I’ve tasted and reordered all or most of them and have no regrets. They all have their high points). I tend to like the smoked sardines, and I don’t mind the small bones or the occasional scales. I also tend to like spicy sardines. Let’s get this out of the way? Why only 4 stars then? Well, it’s not because of taste (clean, smokey, extra-spicy, peppery, oily ... excellent!), or the texture (firm and meaty, not soft or mushy), but for one reason only. These sardines are a bit saltier-tasting than any of the others I’ve eaten. These would be great over plain (unsalted) rice or served with unsalted crackers—maybe topped over a nice salad. On their own (right out of the can), however, they are noticeably salty. Not a deal-breaker, but something of note. Maybe a splash of fresh lemon would cut the salt-level. That said, that is my ONLY complaint. As many others have said, I think these are at, or near, the top of the sardine food chain. They would make nice additions to a meal or an Hors d'oeuvres platter. They’re that good. These are also good if you are the least bit squeamish about bones, skin, and scales. You will find very little in that department to turn you off. The slivers of clove, carrot and pickle are not as pronounced (on their own) as some of the others, but they do add a nice subtle flavor. If you’ve had any of the other sardines and been a bit disappointed, or if you just want to try something different, these fit the bill. They’re priced well and they ship/arrive fast (mine arrived the same day!).

I have always enjoyed King Oscar sardines but never had the Spanish style. They are not stocked in my local grocery stores. I didn't even know they existed until I came across a recipe that called for them. Amazon to the rescue. These are delicious and the red chilis, carrots and cucumber add a depth of heat and flavor that is just right. I will be buying more.

Very tasty but they have priced me out on a repurchase.

I switched from another brand because each can that I opened was a mushy mess.. I thought if one or two cans that happened with..it can happen! But each one was the same. I researched brands, and EWG..please check that site out..Promise you won't be sorry. It rates pesticides, BPA in cans, cosmetics and foods. This brand was rated the best. The first can that I opened was just the same as in the photo in the comments. Plump and perfect shape, for appetizers, or whatever one would like. It tastes delicious. The company is very well researched and has been around for a very long time. I am so happy to recommend this brand. I buy skinless and boneless in water salt free..though it has only a small amount of salt ..I prepare it as a spread..and add lemon juice a little dill and garlic powder, whatever one wants..and little mayo or one can use a little EVOO..served on crackers, or toasted bread. You just can't go wrong. Bon Apetite'
