Fabulous book!
This thin but oversized book (which makes photos much more striking) is filled with incredible photos of the amazing Petra. The text is just enough to tell you all about Petra without giving you a lot of info you don't (probably) need or want. It makes me want to go there!

Missing the Significance
After being enthralled by a National Geographic TV special about the amazing Engineering of Petra, I was excited to read this book. Unfortunately it was a slim and pedantic disappointment.

Nice picture book.
I don’t not have a review and I resent your demanding one. It’s a nice book. That’s all I have.

Book had some great info
The book was an old library book. I did not realize that when I ordered it. Well read, but the info in it was on target. The condition was OK

Lovely book which beautifully captures many of the sights of Petra with lots of information. I bought this in advance of a 9 day trip to Jordan (which was wonderful - go!) and it was great for getting a sense fo the site beyond the famous Treasury. The book is quite heavy so didn't take it with us, as couldn't imagine realistically carrying around (though note a previous reviewer did!) and also wanted to keep it from being bashed about. Very lovely to come back though and pick it up with now familiar sights and having really 'felt' the place. So much more than a guide book.

Rocky stuff
This is a well-photographed and written account by someone who has been there. The enigma of the only Arab, as distinct from Islamic, city famous for its architecture, and built into a desert cleft in the rocks is presented well. We are also told of the current inhabitants and their life. Some say this was the original sanctuary city of the Koran, and I can well believe it. The scale is vast, and the design basically Hellenistic. Okay it isn't 'half as old as time' as the poet said, but fairly recent - still mysterious.

Best book for visiting Petra
A great book to have as a companion when visiting petra, gives a deep history and understanding of the place, taking you trhough all the key sites.Much better than the general Jordan handbooks i had seen from other travellers.
