Apparently, the Italians use this in the afternoons when they don't want more caffeine. It doesn't taste like coffee but it brews like coffee. I use paper filters and pour over. It comes out very dark like espresso. I often add a TB to my organic/no mold light roast coffee grounds that have only been poured over once. So less caffeine but dark color and additional flavor. Works for a second coup for me.

I got this for health reasons and also to cut back on caffeine. I've been enjoying espresso coffee and iced coffee but didn't want to keep drinking too much so this is a great replacement as it tastes just like coffee with a slight slight difference in flavor and I do mean slight in my opinion. I'm used to drinking good quality coffee and this certainly could replace coffee all together if I wanted to. It also feels good just drinking it by itself because it has a healthy feeling to it and it's not just my imagination. It's the difference between eating junk food and carrots although that's a real stretch of example but gives you the idea. Will definitely be buying this again.

I cannot drink caffeine at all but I do enjoy and miss coffee. In Italy on a trip, I discovered Orzo. It's as close to the taste of espresso as you can get!! I can enjoy the taste and smell of a good cup of "coffee." I WILL keep ordering!!

Yummy! The taste is definitely not coffee-like, but delicious nevertheless. This is NOT instant; it must be steeped or brewed, which is just fine with me. I didn't realize that until I got it. The package does mention that fact, labeling it as "filter grind." This tastes different than the instant varieties of coffee substitutes such as Roma, Cafix, Pero, and Orzo Buono (Italian soluable barley drink). It's more dark and strong. I really like it and so do several people I've served it to.
