CCR, for the Certified Clean Razor!
Greetings, fellow razor enthusiasts! Today, I bring you an electrifying tale of cleanliness with a splash of humor. Our protagonist? The stellar Braun Clean & Renew Refill Cartridges, tagged as CCR, your grooming ally for an unbeatably refreshing shaver cleaning experience! Let's get this straight: Cleaning a shaver usually has two possible outcomes. It either results in a scene reminiscent of a horror movie with water splashing everywhere, or a mystery where missing remnants of hair show up in unlikely spots. But that’s when our hero, the CCR, strides in like a smooth Hollywood celebrity stealing the show. This game-changer allows you to clean your shaver without turning your bathroom into a watery battlefield. The Braun CCR comes in a pack of 6 - because, dear friends, cleanliness loves company! Now, your electric shaver doesn’t need to face the grim reality of grime alone. Each cartridge whisks away the nasty leftovers of your morning shaving ritual, leaving you with a zesty lemon-fresh scent that lasts longer than the memory of your first clean shave! PROS: 1. Easy-Breezy Cleaning: What's the deal with cleaning a razor, you ask? Oh, just pop in a CCR cartridge into your Clean & Charge cleaning system and let the magic unfold! 2. Large & In Charge: Packed with six cleaning cartridges, your razor has its personal cleaning army ready to banish dirt and unsightly stubble remnants. 3. Lemon Zest Fest: Each cartridge leaves behind a delightful lemon scent that’ll have you smelling fresher than a lemon grove in spring! CONS: 1. Little Pricey for Perfection: Excellence comes at a cost, my dear friends. These cartridges may feel a little heavy on the pocket, but hey, your razor deserves some pampering, right? 2. Lemon Love Not for All: While most enjoy the freshness of lemon, if you happen to be on the "I-dislike-citrus-scent" team, these beauties might not be your best bet. To wrap it all up, the Braun Clean & Renew Refill Cartridges CCR are the spa-treatment your shavers crave and deserve! Say goodbye to messy manual cleaning and start your day with a squeaky clean, lemon-scented shaver. Be warned, there may be moments of extreme satisfaction!

Somewhat spendy, but worth the cost in the long run
I have been using Braun shavers for over 25 years and have had various iterations of the cleaning stations that come with them. OEM Braun cleaning refill cartridges are pricey at over $5 each, so I've dabbled with a couple of the DIY solution additives available on Amazon. They are dramatically cheaper and do an OK job, but are absolutely not the same solution formula as the genuine Brauns, nor do I find they clean quite as well, despite their claims. I've found some of the tea tree oil varieties also leave a slight residue on the shaver head after a while that needs to be washed off with soap and water. The Braun cartridges seem to clean the best with the least amount of residue, however, they do not last very long. Being a nerd, I tracked my usage in a spreadsheet to see how long they typically last, and you will absolutely not get 2 months out of a single cartridge unless you only use it every 3rd day. Of the last 6 cartridges I've tracked, I typically got 24-26 cleanings (~3.5 weeks) if used every day. I've read claims that daily evaporation makes a big difference and that cleaning every day was unnecessary, so I experimented with one cartridge where I only used it every other day and took it out and capped it after each cleaning (ambient temps in the low 60s); I found it a real nuisance and negates the convenience of the cleaning station to drop it in, push the button, and walk away until your next shave. Even with this tedious routine, I only got 21 cleanings over 6 weeks (42 days exactly) and there was some shaved hair residue starting to accumulate in the shaver head. Simply not worth the hassle in my opinion. One last thing to note, you will only use about 2/3 of the cartridge capacity until the Charge & Renew station requires you to insert a replacement. I measured those 6 cartridges and the usage was consistent. You start with about 1-1/8" (3 cm) of clean fluid and end with about 3/8" (1 cm) of dirty fluid in the container (see photos). This is because as the used solution is cycled back into the cartridge, getting dirtier and dirtier with each cleaning (with most of the shavings settling to the bottom, getting caught in honeycomb-like traps), you reach a point where the liquid becomes too polluted to effectively clean. To make a long review even longer, if you can afford it, I do recommend these genuine Braun refill cartridges over any DIY or knock-off solutions. I know it sucks to have to keep spending money on your Braun, but you've bought a $200-250 shaver, just take care of it properly as it was intended. I did stop using any cleaning solutions for several years and instead tapped the shaving heads on the sink to loosen the shavings and brushed them off by hand with the OEM brush tool, but found the newer shaving heads break much easier being handled like that, whether it was the screens developing small holes or the glue holding the shaving blocks together failing from the vibrations against a hard surface. With a replacement shaver head costing $50-75 each time one breaks prematurely, it’s not worth the gamble in my opinion.
