A fantastic action-packed spy assassin novel you should check out.
Since I had already read American Assassin and loved it, I decided to purchase this 385-page soft cover (Kill Shot: An American Assassin by Vince Flynn). This book continues the saga of Mitch Rapp as he is still hunting for terrorists and is becoming better and more efficient with every job; however, as careful as he has been on his assassin assignments his enemies have set a trap for him. They still do not know who he is or who he works for, but they just know that he has killed many of their colleagues over the year, and now they are planning to kill him. They are determined to kill Rapp and have plenty of fire power. Will they succeed?I never give away too much information in writing my novel reviews because it spoils it for the reader, but if you are into the Vince Flynnโs Mitch Rapp assassin series do not pass this one up.Like the first book in this series, I really enjoyed this action-packed tale. It keeps you turning the pages.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Karate Self-Defense Techniques: Combat Karate for the street).

Still one of the best
I have read all the earlier Vince Flynn / Mitch Rapp books and this is on Parr with the others. Vince is a home town guy and I am sorry how it ended for him. I have bought multiple print copies of his books as well as all the e-book to hopefully help his family. mrg

Mitch Rapp #2 - A Good Read
Action-packed, good pace, solid twists and turns with spikes of adrenaline - the second in a solidly charactered series continues and build on the first. Nothing really unique but a good read nonethelessโฆ

MITCH RAPP - THE EARLY YEARS
As a long-time reader of the Mitch Rapp series and a Vince Flynn fan I was more than looking forward to the release of "Kill Shot" and I wasn't disappointed. Mr. Flynn has a writing style that is engaging and knows just how much detail to provide for you to enjoy the ride. This book picks up where "American Assassin" left off; exploring the recruitment and early career of Mitch Rapp. In "Kill Shot" we learn that Mitch has been eliminating a long list of terrorists and their supporters in short order. His reputation has preceded him, literally, as his current target, a Libyan oil minister with ties to terrorists, is being used as a pawn by others higher in the terrorist food chain to lure this very effective assassin into a trap. Things go terribly wrong and a blood-bath massacre threatens to destroy CIA anti-terror operations and irreparably damage U.S./French relations. Obviously this all points to Mitch, who was shot during the ambush and must figure out how he was compromised and who he can trust. Not making this any easier, his trainer from The Farm, Stan Hurley, who has no love for the cocky new recruit even though Mitch saved his life in "American Assassin," believes this blood-bath was Mitch going over the edge. When the DDO, Thomas Stansfield, orders him to send over a group of operatives to find and if necessary, neutralize Mitch, he chooses "Victor" to lead the group - a goon of a trainer to whom we were introduced in "American Assassin." Aside from being a narcissistic sadist, Victor also has a personal score to settle with Mitch, who turned the tables on him, broke his arm, and made a complete fool of him during his training - something no one has ever done to Victor. The cat and mouse game that ensues, including treason and collusion by some in the U.S. and French intelligence agencies, makes for a great read. There have been several negative reviews of this book based on the lack of action. While I wouldn't consider this the most action-packed of the Mitch Rapp novels nor suggest this as a starting point for anyone not familiar with the series, there was more than enough suspense to make it very interesting and entertaining. As someone who has read the whole series, I found "American Assassin" and "Kill Shot" to be interesting back-stories providing additional character development. Since these are prequels and we know where certain individuals end up and the relationships that have formed from the earlier (chronologically later) books, we're given more character depth. As to the book ending at the 71% mark on Kindle, Mr. Flynn has addressed this in an e-mail to his readers and has already worked with those involved to correct it. They included free excerpts from his previous books in the e-book format which, because it's considered content, was included in the percentage calculation. I seriously doubt Mr. Flynn or anyone else was trying to cheat the readers. Even without the content, it's not that short of a book. The hard-back, which doesn't have the excerpts, is 385 pages, so the criticism that this seemed more like a short story is, in my opinion, unfounded.

Introduction to Mitch Rapp: "American Assassin". Prepare to get hooked
I recently had a doctor's appointment with my family physician who is 33 years old and best described as an extremely intelligent and classy doctor who happens to be female. I only mention the final descriptor because people often feel that characters like Mitch Rapp and story lines that are about terrorism, national security, and contain copious amounts of violence are most appreciated by males. In this case with my doctor, nothing could be farther from the truth. We had a few minutes to talk at the appointment and she asked what books I had read recently. When I told her about the Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp series, she blinked, smiled slyly, and told me she was on the third book in the series and her medical career was in jeopardy because she couldn't put the books down. She absolutely loves Mitch Rapp as if he is a real friend, much like the older generation of Americans loved the Lone Ranger, for example. I gave her the next 6 books of the series and I am guessing since it was 2 months ago that she is working on the next books in the series. She said that the Flynn has made Rapp so real and such a cultural hero that anyone can learn to love his sense of patriotic duty. Beyond that, she researched and found that Mr. Flynn was well-connected with sources at the Pentagon and that the plot lines could read like a daily newspaper: All possible, all dangerous, and all scenarios most Americans would never consider-until they read Flynn's books. Personally, as a teacher and coach, I appreciate Flynn's literary style, the depth of his research, his imagination, and his development of a role model America wants and badly needs. I have spoken with readers of the books ranging in age from 16 to 75 and am certain of one thing: Mitch Rapp appeals to people of all age groups, races, ethnicities, and socio-economic classes. Every single person who has become a Rapp afficionado remains loyal and all of us are anxiously awaiting the next novel. One warning: The books are about terrorists and national security threats and contain a great deal of violent storylines. The good news is that it is not "gratuitous violence" intended to stimulate the reader but rather real life episodes that instruct the reader that the world is dangerous and that very brave, patriotic Americans are risking their lives every day to keep all of us safe. "American Assassin" is a perfect book to introduce people to Mitch Rapp and other characters, many of whom are part of the most recent novels. He is a rare combination of near genius intellect, physical attributes and toughness that are feasible and certainly not "Supermanish", and a love of country rooted in his upbringing and fueled by the death of his fiancee who died when Pan Am 103 was blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland. He is the template for a CIA special operator whose job is to confront and defeat terrorism all over the world.

Another shot for Mitch Rapp
Kill shot is book 2 of the Mitch Rapp series, and once again we are caught up in a tangled web of deceit and murder. These books don't have to be read in order, but in my personal opinion I would, because if you start with book 1, you know everyone. Now, this starts with Mitch making his way through the lit of terrorists that he has, when after the hit has been made, things go wrong. Mitch no longer knows who to trust, Irene doesn't know if she can trust Mitch, and through in some politicians all out to get further up the ladder and for some extra cash and you have another inter woven story, that has you hooked from the first page.I will say that Kill Shot was interesting in hearing of the other players and there agenda's, I did like American Assassin more but I think just because it had more action, But my opinion may change once I read more from this series.I will admit that this wasn't a series that normally interested me, and I will admit that I only wanted to read American Assassin was because I knew they were making it into a movie and Dylan O'Brien would be in it, and I mean should I say more? But I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the first one, and knew I needed to read the rest. I like Vince Flynn's writing and even through there is grammar and spelling mistakes, doesn't stop the action and story line.If you haven't read the Mitch Rapp series, you are missing out and should get reading them.Happy Reading :)

A great prequel and sequel
So I'm coming at this series after American Assassin was already considered "the first" Mitch Rapp book to read so I'm reading from a point of view where this is the second book in the series. From that point of view it's a great sequel. It builds in Rapp's reputation as incredibly dangerous and builds on the characters found in the first book. I very much look forward to reading the true "First book" in the series as this was Vince Flynn's first Mitch Rapp story. Will be interesting to see the transition.

Rapp is The American Assassin
This is the second prequel in the Rapp series. I am a huge Vince Flynn fan and was not let down with this book. Mitch Rapp is The Man, to me he is the whole package for a fictional hero. Vince Flynn does it so easily, you are gripped from the start and don't want to put the book down. I have read plenty of other books in this genre but Flynn seems to keep it real. Rapp is fallible and can be hurt but his attention to detail prevents him getting into those impossible situations that most authors tend to rely on almost fantasy outcomes in order get their hero's through it; this is what keeps it real for me. Rapp has one role, if you do some despicable act against America, he will be hunt you down and make you pay.

Highly recommended
Following on from American Assassin Mitch Rapp's career continues. He is put in a position where he questions who he can trust after details of an operation seems to have been leaked and he is ambushed while carrying it out. I read this book out of sequence having finished the entire series and could really see how Rapp's growing into his role. I listen to this on audible and George Guidall is a fantastic narrator.
