After spending 20 mins opening this, I have no idea how to put it together? I think there are bits missing.. no plastic screw as mentioned by revie.

It comes complete eg one long pole with a black eyelet to put line in and half way down there is a black fixture which you turn to make the prop the required height.

is the post made of plastic or metal

Metal with a metal screw fitting. It has quite a small diameter and feels flimsier than my previous clothes prop of 15 years!

After trying to un wrap this it does not work or extend and is bent too very upset

My prop works perfect and a pair of scissors cut the packaging

Could anyone tell me the diameter of the widest section of the prop?

The widest sections are the hook (2.8 cms.) and the ferrule at the bottom (2.2 cms., according to my reckoning!
