This is a stunning and beautiful book. We simply love it at the moment and recommend it to all ages as it is a book to be treasured.Elly MacKay makes these wonderful pictures using paper and ink and then sets them into miniature theatres which gives them the real life feel; it really works.The book covers 23 sayings about weather, some we knew such as ‘Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning’, and some which were new to us all such as ‘Frogs will call before the rain, but in the sun are quiet again’. With each saying is whole page or double page picture, making the book a lovely long feast for the eyes.The book has a father/grandfather figure and two children who are experiencing the sayings and clearly learning from the wisdom and knowledge being passed down to them, just as these have sayings have been passed down the generations. It truly is magical.And are they true? Do these sayings work? I was as keen to know as the children, and the book gives us this information at the end, so we learn which scientifically work, which don’t and which only work some of the time. So fascinating.Just a joy to have on our bookshelf, the children are now quoting the sayings and has opened up many discussions on weather.Hardback, matte with thick paper pages.
