I use 10 gauge with banana plugs but you can use 12 the thick of the wire the better for sound quality

Do they put out any bass

Yes they do. The bass response is unbelievable. It's room shaking bass. You will not be disappointed.

Are these speakers a maintenance free design, or can components be replaced by repair shop?

Maintenance free? I just dust mine off and continue to use. I've had no problems with mine. I'm sure Klipsch stands by their product and will help you if there's a problem...
