Does the job
I bought this to mount some cheap C mount lenses on my Nikon V1. Works great for my 25 mm f1.4 that you can find on sale from a number of merchants however when I got my 50 mm f1.7 it had a rather limited focus range about 1 - 2 meters away. No focus to infinity - which I didnt expect. I ended up getting my hands on another C mount adapter from EZFoto - and I noticed the overall thickness of the mount is less - tried it on the 50 mm f1.7 and voila, a semi usable focus range [still no infinity] but can focus to at least 3 - 4 meters away [usable for the effective 135 mm equivalent view]Anyway, I still use this mount for the 25 mm f1.4, but if you use this on a C mount lens and find your focus range limited, you can probably mill out some of the metal or pay about 10 bucks for a thinner mount.

A great product but not too user friendly
Not for the amateur or faint of heart but immensely rewarding if you have some old quality Minolta glass from the film era. Since this adapter is completely manual, you have to manually focus the lens and set aperture and shutter speed just like in the old days. For the price, it slips on and off my J1 smoothly enough, and the lenses similarly mount and dismount nicely from the adapter. Here are some pointers on the use of this adapter on the J1:Make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade for the camera. It is freely available on the Nikon support website.Carefully attach lens with adapter to camera. Only attach a lens that has a both a focus ring and an aperture ring.Go into the menu and select exposure; then manualSet the ISO to 400 or less in the menuSet a shutter speed on the body with the little flippy switch in the upper right. You can focus with the lens wide open, and then turn the aperture ring to choose an aperture setting. As you close this aperture, objects closer and further from the point that you have chosen will come into focus, and less light will reach the sensor.Try a shot, and look at it on the screen. You can just experiment with a different aperture or shutter speed depending on your initial result or press the display button until the histogram shows up alongside your shot, and change shutter speed or aperture to taste. repeat. It sounds like a lot of work, but once you get the knack it becomes second nature. It is very rewarding to see the stunning results obtainable with old, sharp Minolta glass. It is also nice that this costs a fraction of the amount that Nikon charges for the modern autofocus equivalent lenses on the J1.

Works for CY Planar T* 50mm/1.4 (non MM: no green aperture marking) on V2/J1
For Planar T* 50mm/1.4 (non MM) on V2/J1 camera. I gave 5 stars based on the fact that it performs as best as it could for an adapter without electronics and for the price.Carl Zeiss C/Y lens adapters for Nikon mount are usually bad as they do not allow infinity focus if it is a purely mechanical or if it include optical component it degrades the image quality (the whole point of trying to use a Carl Zeiss lens). The beauty of using an adapter for Nikon 1 mount is that you can have infinity focus without optical components. The only primes I have a Nikon 18mm/1.8 and a 50mm/1.8D. The 32mm/1.2 is out of my budget and I was considering getting a 50mm/1.4AFS for better DOF in the 1" sensor. But during my trip to Denmark I stumbled on a Contax 139 with a Planar T* 50mm/1.4 (non MM unfortunately) for $18 so I thought it would be worthy to loose AF and give it a try.The adapter works as it is supposed to (for a dumb adapter):1) You can only take pictures on Manual2) Manual focus only. The OK button will NOT enlarge the image3) On my preliminary tests the image seems to be good. I like the bokeh. The colors are great but change dramatically above base ISO (have not had the chance to investigate why). I don't remember seeing that effect with my Nikkor 50/1.8 and FT-1.Do I recommend buying the adapter? Absolutely IF you already own a Carl Zeiss C/Y mount lens (or can find a real bargain like I did). If you don't I would recommend getting a FT-1 and Nikon AF compatible lens as you would also get Aperture Priority and Image enlargement during manual. focus.

It does exactly what it says it will do
I have a Nikon J1 and a few Zeiss lenses from my old film days and when I saw this product I figured I'd try it. What the heck, it was less than six bucks and if it didn't work I could use it for surf casting. If it did, then I could put a few dust collectors to work.Well, it does exactly what is is supposed to do. The machining is top quality and they even thoughtfully added a tripod mount on the adapter, which is a good thing as the lenses are huge in comparison to the camera.Advantages- You can utilize some old glass. There is a magnification factor of 2.7 which makes the 50 into a short telephoto and the 80-200 into a honking 540mm lens. The small sensor in the camera only uses the sweet spot of an already amazing lens. The depth of field is very shallow, especially at f1.4 giving some neat bokeh.Disadvantages- The camera must be used fully manually. Focusing is a task on the screen, especially in bright light. Setting exposure is by trial and error as you will get nothing to indicate proper exposure. No real issue though, just take a guess and adjust as needed.Since I got the camera cheap and I already had the lenses, this setup will be my beach camera where I don't like to take the SLR to close to the water. With the big lens on a tripod I can get some good surfer pictures.Overall, a quality product from Fotodiox. Everything I have bought from them is good.

Gives a new lease of life to classic glass
bought adaptors to let me use my film era Fujinon and Topcon lenses on my modern digital Nikon J1. For this review I'm dealing with the Fujica X-mount bayonet adaptor.Firstly these US supplied adaptors arrived in a reasonably quick time (within a week). It came in a box with a soft pouch inside; the feel and finish of the adaptor is very nice and mounted on the black J1 looks very appropriate. Fujinon users will be familiar with the fact that, unmounted from the camera, the lens will spring open to it's open aperture and I was concerned that I would only be able to shoot with the aperture wide open, but thankfully the adaptor incorporates a static bar the closes the aperture to the selected value. It'll take a bit of discipline to focus at wide open and then close down to the desired shooting aperture (whilst remembering to meter); so it's fair to say this is not the setup where speed is of the essence. In practical use the camera will initially complain that a lens isn't attached but delving into the menu and selecting manual exposure solved this.Overall a nicely made piece of gear that I would certainly recommend and top marks to Fotodiox for putting out such a comprehensive range of adaptors that allow so many old lens fittings to be used again on modern gear.

will not mount on nikon v2
bought one when price dropped to £9 briefly. As cx g adapters go its not bad at all. once you've got the screw drive coupling aligned properly the focussing is quite smooth. It will mount on the v1, v2 and j5 which is what i've tried.it will NOT mount on a v2 because the overhang of the evf housing prevents its location.( there is also the issue that manually any mf lens ( other than by the ft1 is difficult since nikon 1 has neither focus peaking or magnification aids.)

very well made niche adaptor
somewhat mystified by the .com reviewer that complains about the adaptor's additional glass lens as this Nikon 1 adaptor doesn't have one!The unit is very nicely made (I'm very impressed how well the little blue lever works!); the whole thing works as it should and a Topcon 58mm f1.4 mounted on the front of a J1 really looks the part.I'm really chuffed there are firms out there like Fotodiox taking the time to make adaptors for lesser known lens fittings.
