Excellent pedal for a specific type of user
I have several rides on these pedals now, and I think I know why they are a bit polarizing. They work great as either flat or clipless pedals, BUT not both at once when out on the trail. The trouble is that the flat side has terrible grip with clipless (cleated) shoes, at least with the Shimano shoes I ride in. The hard soles of clipless biking shoes just slide off the flat side of this pedal. If you think you can use both sides of this pedal while out on the trails, think again. It's not the compromise setup one might expect- you can't clip in and then use the flatless side for a dicey part of the trail for example. The flat side just won't hold your clipless shoes. The clipless side works great though. I've had no trouble at all clipping in and out, and at least for my set of pedals, there was no break-in period required. The flat side DOES work great with non-biking shoes. I've ridden with sandals, Pumas, running shoes, and boots. They all grip well and cause no problems. Like most (if not all) clipless pedals though, the clipless side is terrible with regular shoes. These pedals work fantastic for someone like me- I have just one bike, and I ride about 50:50 on nearby singletrack and on my 30 acre farm. I don't usually feel like getting out my cycling shoes if I'm just riding down to the mailbox, rounding up my pet pigs who roam all over, or just going down to the barn to get a tool or something. They are a compromise though as one has to sometimes search for the clipless side when on the trail, but I've gotten pretty quick on it. Overall, these are the perfect pedal for my situation, but I think you'll be unhappy if these are for the trail only.

Great hybrid usage pedal
Pros: Very well made. Ability to clip in or ride flats is great.Cons: A bit heavy. The traction studs aren't as aggressive as I would likeOverall opinion:This is the second pair I've purchased. This pair put on my fat bike to ride either sandy beach casual/fun rides, as well as clipped for more spirited rides. Works great for either purpose.

Nice hybrid pedals
These are really nice hybrid pedals. they feel very solid and i like the look. My wife wanted to start riding clipless and these seemed like a good first set for her bike - she loves them so far and has found them very easy to use. I have ridden with hybrid pedals on my commuter bike for years - its nice to have the option to just hop on without your bike shoes, and you get used to the little flip move that you have to do to get the right side of the pedal facing up. I do think that commuting, touring or casual riding around town are the right use cases for this type of pedal.I find the knobs on the platform side grip a pair of sneakers just fine despite not being adjustable, although i havent tried them on any type of rough terrain. As other reviewers have mentioned the mechanism on the cleat side is VERY stiff out of the box and needs to be broken in. I put the bike up on a trainer and just clicked in and out for a while and it loosened right up without needing any additional lubrication and is fine now.

Pedals appear to be very well made. A little ...
Update to review below. After trouble shooting with Crank Brothers, we determined that these pedals, unlike egg beaters, do have a "break-in" period for the spring tension and ability to clip in and out. They were INCREDIBLY stiff out of the box to the point of not being able to clip in, and once in, not being able to get out. I would recommend riding around a neighborhood circle or familiar loop while repeatedly clipping in and out to smooth out the spring action. After a few weeks they are easy to get into and are becoming easier to get out of as well.(The following is my initial review, prior to excellent communication back and forth with C.B.) Pedals appear to be very well made. A little on the heavy side (albeit I'm used to egg beaters) but the platform side work very well. However, I had a very difficult time clipping in the opposite side. Once clipped in, getting out was almost impossible. Had I not discovered this in my neighborhood circle and gone out for a ride, I could have found myself in a dangerous situation. I have been riding Crank Brothers pedals 6 years without issue. Hopefully this is a new model problem that can be fixed. Review will be updated after hearing back from manufacturer

Love these pedals
Replaced the stock plastic pedals on my Specialized Sirrus X 3.0 and couldn’t be happier. They’re much more solid and provide a lot more traction even if you’re not clipping in.

Great alternative to choosing between flats and clipless
Picked these up for a new gravel bike after riding only flats on my full suspension MTB and fat tire bikes. The last time I clipped into pedals was in the mid 80's, and they were with the old style straps, which is also the type of pedal the bike came with this time. I love the efficiency of being attached to the pedal, but I'll be taking the bike a bunch of different places, and I'm mildly concerned I'll forget my cycling shoes, so wanted the hybrid offered here.Simple install like any other pedal. Installing the clips into my Specialized shoes took some reading on how to orient, but was straightforward. I rode the bike with the flat side, and they worked fine. Getting clipped in for the first time was a challenge, but not related to the product, just the user (me). Once I figured that out, the pedals just work. Easy to get in and out of, solid attachment, super product. Can't speak to durability, but pretty happy so far with a couple hundred miles in.

The Best on the Market
I looked all over for a set of pedals that could function with and without clip in. The level of quality in these by crankbrothers is unmatched.

Great hybrid pedal
I am biased as I am a huge Crankbrothers fan. I was looting for a great hybrid pedal for my new bike and the Double Shot 3's were perfect as the non clip side is aluminium with adjustable pins perfect for my flat shoes the pedal size is a little smaller than my Chesters on my other bike but it does not feel any less stable or less connected. The other side allows me to lock in securely with my clip in shoes and does not feel any different from any other clip in only pedals. Great quality excellent buy!
