Getting Started: Clicker Training for Cats Kit -How to clicker train your cat to do what you want it to do
This was a purchase I made as a gift for my daughter and her 12 year old son.I purchased a similar 'kit' pertaining to dogs for myself and have found it very helpful as well as interesting for my use with dogs I own.My daughter has a young cat and an older dog.Since "you cannot teach an old dog new tricks" ( that's a joke, because really you can :) ha,ha ), I decided she would enjoy this set for her cat to be stimulated to learn new things for not only her and her son's amusement, but for the cat to having something to do as well.Perhaps, the cat can amuse the dog while 'mom' is away for the day at work and the son is at school...I have been using the Dog Clicker Training version of this 'kit' and have had great success so far in teaching not only a 10 week old Lab puppy, but also some success with two older Golden Retrievers. With dogs, and most animals, food is the magic wand, along with the clicker that stimulates their reactions to your training. The 'enforcer'.I think dogs especially, could have a tag on their collar that says, "Will work for FOOD!" and it would certainly be the truth :)This is a great introduction to a world of communication with animals of various types --- dogs, cats, birds, horses, llamas, even fish etc. !A fascinating topic and gives great insight into communication with animals. It definitely makes working with your animal companions more stimulating and fun :)

Worth buying
This book is very easy to understand and fun to read. I taught my cats to give kisses and come when I click. I wish I had the time to teach them more but the "kisses" took no time at all. They learned in less than a day. You just have to find a treat the cat really likes (we have two cats and they absolutely loooove "pure bites", freeze dried chicken treats). I would definitely get the clicker with it, too. It would be too much of a hassle to find one after receiving the book as they are not sold in all pet stores (or you may not want to spend the time going to the store). then you can start as soon as the package arrives. We had to get an additional clicker as we misplaced the first. We don't want the cats to get too far from the house (and definitely be in the house at night time) and the clicker has been invaluable in getting the cats to come running home when we can't find them. That alone is worth spending the money for the book!

Know your cat!
This works very well for cats who do not grow bored easily. We have bengals (exotic breed - asian leopard&domestic cat) and this worked very well the first 2 days and then they basically stopped caring after that. Not sure if it's because bengals are very intelligent and grow bored easily or if it's just because they do have that exotic blood in them.I'm sure this product works very well for other cats. Unfortunately, not as much for my bengals. We will continue trying to use this as a form of bonding and positive communication. I will update my review if there are changes.

You CAN train a cat!
The kit offers clear, simple instructions on training your cat, in addition to the book and clicker, it even includes some dehydrated fishy treats to entice your cat to play with you. I like the idea expressed that we don't train cats, they learn how to train you to give them those yummy treats. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who would like to get their cat(s) to cooperate.

Interesting
I purchased and read the information. My cats were pretty uninterested and we all lost interest. Think a DVD would be good.

Great resource, even for dogs!
I wish I had read this when I started clicker training my dog. It's a lot easier to take this whole new approach when you're working with a cat because most of us don't have a history or idea of what it takes to train a cat, requiring one to really focus on the basic techniques. My cat will never jump through a hoop but we are both having fun with this and he is even getting closer to the dreaded cat carrier!

Just get the book
The book looks ok, although I haven't really gotten a chance to use the techniques. However, the clicker that came with my kit doesn't make any sound whatsoever. Apparently other people didn't get broken ones, but I did. It's not worth shipping back, so I'm just going to buy a new clicker that actually works.Meanwhile, my cats hate the shriveled up little treats that came in the kit. They sniff them, lick them, and then ultimately leave them partially re-hydrated on my floor. So I'm going to have to figure out something else to use for treats. Really wish I'd just gotten the book and skipped the kit.

Fun to do with cats!
Great little booklet--clear and concise. Although the author needs to reassure the pet owner that they will probably have to be very patient with results. I wish that there was a video with the book. Not always sure that I'm doing the training correctly.
