Important inquiry into how one should live his life
The author's philosophy is inspired by Zen Buddhist philosophy. Which asks you to live your life and perform every task - small or big- with great care and attention. The result of such action is visibly different and better than the tasks performed in a haphazard manner and a hurry. The plot concerns his motorcycle trip with his son in the western US states in 60s. He rode his 500 CC Honda. Many motorcyclists have done the same trip in US along the same route. You can watch youtube videos. This bike trip did happen with his son. That Honda motorcycle is still there in his museum and all his tools. If you want to understand his philosophy better then this book is not sufficient. You need to read his other book - "On Quality", in which he has espoused his thoughts better. You will also see the photos of his motorcycle and the tools he used to maintain and service that motorcycle. The pdf is available on the internet. It is still astounding that this book and his philosophy have become such a monumental success and have become required reading in many universities around the world. It is a great philosophy to live your life to make it a quality life with meaning. But one wonders what becomes viral and successful in the modern world. One never knows. Personally, my key takeaway from this book is...Live your life consciously. Perform every job with intention and great care. Take your time. You should become one with the work you are doing. Then the result will speak for itself. That is it. I summed up the whole book for you.

Must read for any person who has remotely any interest in philosophy
This book is not a very dense in its structure, quite direct in tone. But some of the concepts that he lays down are not easy to understand at all. I have had this book for more than 2 years and i still go back to it and read parts of it. It has many quotable lines that are really eye opening and comforting for some reason. Its safe to say that this is my favourite book of all time.

A work of art
Its the author's personal oddsey into how he came about his concept of Metaphysics of Quality distilled with a biographical account of his motorcycle journey across the States. Its a bloody tough read and definiyely requires multiple readings but its worth it for a curious mind. If highest impact any work of art can have on anyone is how it makes you think; how your perpective shifts and changes your worldview then this is that work of art. Its informative, reflective, insightful and towards the end, poignantly emotional.

Classic Americana
There is nothing more down to Earth than fixing an old motorcycle. So many memorable quotes from this. A timeless classic. So many anecdotes from eastern philosphy, prisig's time in India. Could have been shorter, but it was just like a motorcycle ride. The get to book for someone who loves motorycles.
