About the Author Miles lives in Northern California, on the Southern edge of the "Pacific Northwest." As an astonishing coincidence, he happened to choose that region to write a novel about. He grew up in Silicon Valley (before it was really called that) and watched the personal computer being born. And now lives in the redwoods of Santa Cruz County, working "over the hill" developing software The characters in this story all grew out of real-life personalities, observed at various public gatherings and forums related to logging and activism, as well as many years playing piano for and participating in dance classes. In his spare time, Miles enjoys ice skating and studying Congolese dance.
