Bought it and loving it.
At this price this sander works great. Quality and product is great. am giving 4 star because of the lack of speed control.

Does the job
Good product. The mechanism to hold the sand paper in place is on the harder side and requires considerable pressure. Other than that, I don't see any negatives. The pouch collects dust reasonably well. There still is fine dust left on the work bench that you need to clean up afterwards though.I am used it continuously for couple of hours and I don't see much heat build up. Recommended.

It is as excellent for finishing work
Good for finishing. It leaves no marks at all.Might consider buying this than a more expensive random orbital sander.

Good tool for a DIY enthusiastic
Usefull tool for smoothening surface..changing paper is easy.. any paper from local store can be used for it..paper cost only 30rs max.. no need any special paper.. good sanding ability.. vibration transfer to hand also very less.. sanding circles can also removed by ideal choosing of paper grit.. go for it.. you wont regret..

Works well
Used it a bit to remove rust spots on steel frame of a table. Worked well, but the holes in the paper make it tear very easily. Maybe I need to change the procedure, will update if any.

Was between this model, the square plate palm sander or a random orbit, happy i took this
Purchased primarily for sanding the wood stairs in our house after ripping out carpet. But after this is done, i'm going to do a LOT more with it.There is glue, dirt, gunk & white paint on the wood surface of the steps.Using 40 grit sandpaper purchased in the local DIY store here by the meter. I had the machine running roughly 5-6 hours, the only break was to brush off dust & hoover it out so about a minutes break between steps.I was indecisive between this model, the smaller square plate one (palm sander) or a random orbit. Spoke to a pro carpenter friend of mine who makes boats & knows his job well. He recommended this over the other & i'm so glad i followed his advice. For me this one unit does the task of a random orbit, a detail sander & a regular orbital (which it is).Random orbit, i manually go in circles, i see gunk disappearing quicker than normal straight-ish strokes. Not 100% a random orbit but works well for aggressive removal.Detail sanding...getting into tight corners, i lift the sander up & only point in the tip to the edge, did a decent job for me & took off loads of paint that was only on the edges. Also when lifting the sander up, the traction area is a lot less & you can feel the vibration plate moving fast & well. Once again, not every bit in the corner is off, but 94% or so done. And of course regular sanding for long surfaces, etc (the entire length of each step).. 1/3 so a good bit of surface area, sure helps the job. There is vibration of course, think of roller skates, an hour on them & when u take them off you can still feel the vibrations. Not with this unit here, after 6 hours of going at it my hands were not shaky, which did surprise me a bit actually. The grip is fantastic to hold, if fingers are tired or you need a different posture to hold, you can always move around it. Can use it with one hand or both for leverage.Dust, yes of course, its a fine dust sander & fine dust gets everywhere. I don't have a builders hoover to attach in. So, i just used the dust bag itself, kept a broom brush without the handle nearby & a regular vax pet hoover at hand. All doors closed so as to contain the dust as much as i can. Cloth over nose, mouth & hair.At the end of the 5 hours, yes dust everywhere !! You don't see it so much when working but at the end of the job yes you do :)But, once again the function of this tool is to slowly & carefully strip out layers of paint, wood, gum, etc. To be efficient in that task, it needs to sand out fine particles & fine particles are difficult to contain. So, personally i can't complain about the dust, i feel its a part of the process.Tomorrow i'm at it again, this time with 80 grit. Then a coat of varnish, then maybe a 120 grit light sand & more coats of varnish. Then the kitchen cabinets & then i just want to do more, i'm so enjoying using this tool. For those who would like to know, yes, like most things in today's time, it is in fact made in china. But feels strong & durable. I've also put a bit of body weight & pressure on it at times to really scrape & the motor handles well without failing or giving out.And if all that wasn't just fine, there's a bonus...if you register on the makita site within 30 days of purchase, you get 3 years warranty.I could not be more pleased with it all.Amazon initially showed me 2 weeks delivery time !!! I panicked & tried to cancel the item & order elsewhere, but got a reply that i could not cancel? And the next day it was dispatched & reached me 2 days after. Happy here !!

Makita BO3710 1/3 sheet Finishing Sander
The BO3710 lives up to Makita’s great reputation IMHO. It does a great job flush sanding on all 4 sides. It feels smooth in your hand yet the base vibrates powerfully using 60, 150, and 220 grit sandpaper. You can bog it down a little but you’ll go through sandpaper faster. It blows a considerable plum of dust out of its exhaust, no less than 5 feet, without punched sandpaper or having the dust bag attached. You can see that it removes material well and the rubber faced aluminum base leaves a perfectly flat surface. It runs quiet until you put it on your project, then you hear the power this sander has. I use good hearing protection as it’s too loud to talk over while in use. It seems very durable, well-built and feels solid. I completely shape and finish sanded 30 cabinets with doors and more than a dozen shelves. I worked this sander for six 12 hour days almost continuously. I dropped it from 9 feet onto a concrete floor once and watched it bounce 3 times. I also knocked it off my 42” work bench at least 3 times. It bounces well and turns itself off with abuse like that yet I can’t even see a scuff, still looks and works like new. I killed a Craftsman 1/3 sheet sander on this project, no comparison whatsoever. The power switch is big and easy to hold in the on position while alternating sanding positions using 2 hands. The round switch lock is kind of awkward to activate but easily releases with the slightest bump to the power switch, a good thing. The spring assisted sandpaper holder works great. It opens wide and locks securely in the closed position. It holds the paper exactly where you put it. It does not stretch the paper when you clamp it down so it’s up to you to put it on correctly. I think this is the best mechanism if you use the quality sticky back sheets as they don’t stretch anyway. I never used the punch plate for its intended purpose. I think it drastically shortens the life of the sand paper. I use it to protect the rubber base while storing it in my tool box. I wish Makita would offer a case for this sander, it deserves one. I also use the punch plate as a template for folding and ripping the sand paper sheets into thirds, its single best purpose. This one, however, came made out of plastic, WHY. My vintage 1980 Makita BO4550 ¼ sheet sander came with a metal punch plate. I hope this new BO3710 lasts as many years as my BO4550.
