Good for slicing bread
I started making bread in a bread machine, and was looking for help in making slices straight and uniform. This item is ALMOST perfect. It helps keep the slice uniform, and the serrated edge is good for bread. However, the design doesn't allow the knife to cut fully through the slice of bread -- it stops about 1/2' from the bottom of the slice. The"guide" is lower than the knife, so I wind up using the tip of the knife to slice the rest of the way through, and, well, that isn't a straight slice. For six bucks though, what the heck. I'm keeping it and using it for bread...."Most" of my slice will be good.....but there is probably something better out there.UPDATE: I figured out how to use this darn thing to slice bread well, as I hoped it would do. I put the bread on a cutting board, on top of a thick (folded) towel, so there is a "drop" from the edge of the cutting board to the counter of about an inch. I put the loaf of bread out beyond the edge of the cutting board (in mid air, to overstate it!) and cut....the knife keeps on going and when it finally "stops" on the counter (its the guard that hits, not the knife), I've cut through the whole slice without having to wiggle, twist or do anything but keep a straight even slice. I cut several slices at once doing it this way (feeding six men at a time), so it is easy.Strongly recommend. I took those other bread slicers off my "wish list". This is small, handy, inexpensive and works great.

Nice
Next to my Showtime Rotisserie and NuWave Oven, this is one of the best As Seen on TV purchases that I have made. It is sharp and the guide adjusts from 1/4" to 1" thickness. I used it to slice through a loaf of turkey ham that I had been avoiding because I didn't feel like butchering it with a knife or pulling out my food processor to slice. I sliced the whole loaf into 1/4" slices in less than 5 minutes. The knife also does a great job cutting even bread slices, and it works like a charm when slicing tomatoes. This is a really good kitchen tool to have. Well worth the price!

Works as advertised
I got this for slicing home made bread loaves. At the low price on amazon, I figured it would not be much of a financial loss if it didn't work very well for this purpose. However, I have been pleasantly surprised at how well it works! It cuts the bread evenly into uniform-thickness slices. It works well on soft, freshly baked bread regardless of the type of bread. The blade is serrated and very sharp, so be sure to use a cutting board! Just one nit-pick: the knife I got is usable best by right-handed people. Lefties will have to practice using it in their right hand. Or maybe they make a left-hand version - ? In any case, this knife works great for slicing bread.

very poorly made
Had a knife like this before and it was great but this one was terrible. Right out of the box it was the dullest knife I have ever tried to use. The knob to adjust the width of the slice does not turn smoothly. The guide for the width is positioned too low so the knife will not cut down all the way to the bottom of whatever you try to slice. This is a really cheap knock-off of what once was a great idea and a great knife.

Not the real deal.
I've had my original Deli Pro slicing knife for as long as I can remember and I love it. It's getting a little worn so I found this one on Amazon. Received it and the first thing I noticed that there was no "Deli Pro" logo on it. (See first photo.) I took out a tomato and tried slicing it and it didn't even cut through the skin! I took my old Deli Pro and did the same thing...perfect slice. The edge is different on this one, too. (See close up of both knives.) Adjustable "guide" is wiggly. Not the real deal so would not recommend.

Not quite the quality we were hoping for
The knife itself is sharp. But the adjustable guide is really flimsy and cannot be tightened up enough to make nice clean cuts.
