Craziest Marvel Flick Yet..!
Thor: Ragnarok has to be one of the craziest Marvel flick yet, delivering everything you want and expect with a little bit more, brimming with fun, personality and action.Anyone who has seen director Taika Waititi's vampire-comedy mockumentary ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ will likely expect his inimitable and delightful brand of humour to extend to his Marvel entry. It’s fortunate that he kept his comedy as it really delivers and fits in well with the comedic personality that Marvel has crafted itself; some of their best films are also, by no coincidence, also the funniest and Waititi has continued this trend, while keeping the laughs fresh and genuinely funny. I wouldn’t say that this movie is an out-and-out comedy as not all the jokes are intended to make you laugh out loud! but they never feel forced and all lend themselves to the personality of the film (and the franchise) and really maximise the fun we have watching the movie. After all, this is a film about a traditional Norse God as a superhero fighting alongside a big, angry, green raging monster, so it's important to have fun with it!'Fun' is certainly one of the best words to describe Thor: Ragnarok and it doesn't extend to just the laughs. Other enjoyable elements include references to the wider MCU to excite us all. All the elements fit in well and seamlessly, not a shoehorned, forced reference or cameo; they all seem natural and make sense to the plot. It's delightful to see Dr Strange, even just for one scene, and to be able to spy glimpses of the Tesseract and a fake Infinity Gauntlet. These scenes definitely add to the rewatch value. The crazy kinetic action really does extend to the whole of the film, from beginning to end, each sequence excellently choreographed. It doesn't shy away from its roots from comics as some of the fights are just as delightfully eccentric and over-the- top. Still they never cease to entertain and, more than that, some are just stunning to behold; the flashback to Valkyrie battling Hela the first time, her army atop a hoard of winged horses soaring through an orange sky only to be cut down by swords and spikes flying towards them in slow- motion! These are gorgeous scenes and Waititi and cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe have done work to be proud of by showing the beauty of some of Zack Snyder's superhero moments, but in a good film with much more personality and punch. Most of this movie's joy lies in its characters though; at the end of the day, it is funny and the action looks cool, but if we don't love the characters, we won't love the film. Back again we get the usual ensemble of returning characters - Thor, Loki, Odin and Heimdall. All are as regal, fun and charismatic as ever, Hemsworth and Hiddleston in particular; it's wonderful to see these actors develop their characters over the last few films into lovable parts in a franchise full of heroes we already love. I do feel Hopkins deserved a little more screen time and a chance to get more emotional about his sons, his departure and his daughter, but, ever the professional, he makes the most with what he has. Returning characters from elsewhere in the MCU are Dr Strange and the amazing Hulk who add to the delightful ensemble. For me it was a relief to finally see Hulk have a decent amount of screen time and for us to get to know Hulk as opposed to just Banner; they're two distinct characters within each other and it's about time we get to see more of everyone's favourite rage monster. The new characters introduced in this film are all excellent worthy additions and bring a refreshing touch with them. Tessa Thompson is excellent and charismatic as kick-ass female hero Valkyrie, able to confidently stand among Thor, Hulk and Loki. Korg may not be quite the same character he is in the comics, but Waititi takes this part and really makes it his own, saving lots of the quirky laughs for himself. Cate Blanchett too is a particularly fantastic villain, sure to stand amongst the best Marvel villains so far, heads and shoulders above the likes of Malekith and Ronan. She's less generic, less monologue-y and never boring; able to kick ass in a sexily evil way. And of course there's Jeff Goldblum whose character is perfectly suited to Jeff Goldblum, it’s hard to tell when his in character or not!Thor proves himself to be the God of Thunder and Thor: Ragnarok proves itself to be one of the best that Marvel has offered, safely standing proud amongst the best so far. The whole movie is an absolute blast, packed with plenty of references, gorgeous action, fantastic CGI and effects and more genuine laughs than most comedies. An excellent film to round off Marvel in 2017. Highly recommended to watch again and again.

A staggerinly inventive, exciting and funny purchase - best seen in 4K
Thor has always been presented with a degree of daft humour. The first movie built in several hubris-busting moments where he would make absurd declarations and get cut short or put in his place while trying to earn back his hammer and his father's respect. The second had the very amusing and pomposity busting presence of Jane Foster's team, and a rarely-better Loki. After the slightly grim style and rather dull bad guys of Thor - The Dark World', 'Ragnarok' pushes things to a whole new level.Waititi brings us a genuine Action-comedy.Don't be scared by that, because although I was a little anxious about what to expect, he has a deft hand at blending violence with comedy, and serious notes abound among the levity. The story is fairly simple: Thor returns from the chaotic nine realms to realism something is amiss at home, and an ensuing major plot development (that I won't spoil) then unleashes Hela, the Goddess of Death upon Asgard. Kate Blanchett revels in the camp villainy of the role, dripping theatrical menace and bad-girl style as she tries to seize Asgard against a torrent of resistance. Meanwhile Thor and Loki end up trapped on another world, with Thor facing gladiatorial games reminiscent of ancient Rome at the hands of Jeff Goldblum's quirky 'Grandmaster'. Here, in this blazingly colourful, 80's hued setting, the film enters comedy territory even further with a wealth of brilliantly memorable characters too numerous to list. Suffice it to say that Thor's adventures here hold the interest just as well as the rest of the movie, and we get emotional moments, heroic moments and brilliant fights, as well as some character-advancing scenes. The comedy is fast, brilliant and often a little lewd, and is intercut with visually astonishing battles and epic moments. All of the characters get the kind of hero-strut moments that send a tingle down your spine, and Waititi proves talented at sneaking in emotional character development amidst action and humour with a deft hand. Some folks may struggle with just how excessive and humorous the film becomes, but it amply rewards viewers who relax into its craziness and enjoy the ride. Breathtaking, retina-scorchingly beautiful (that 'heavenly' battle image!!!), mind-bogglingly inventive with its visuals and approach, you may not see another sequel this brave and exotic for the rest of the decade. The years must-have purchase.

The best in the marvel series......so far.......
This has to be my favorite Marvel film (and I rarely review films on Amazon!)I greatly enjoyed this Thor film -- for me it offered the best overall experience of all of the current generation of marvel movies (perhaps very close with GOTG 1)This film managed to capture a fine balance between comedy and action/adventure. Even the hulk in my opinion this was by far his best portrayal, showing an actual personality to the character that in most cases is totally lost. The relationship between Thor & the hulk is in fact at it's strongest with this movie and manages to find humor with a character that has always been difficult to put across well in movies (The hulk - i point to the appalling Hulk movies of the 90's & early 00's - sorry if you were a fan!)The introduction of the Valkyrie character is a nice touch and added to the norse mythology of the wider marvel universe. Not surprising really with title of the film being Ragnarok of course!Whilst it's probably too late for spoilers, i'll avoid a lengthy review just in case this review happens to inspire someone to watch it!Love it and for me at least it will take some beating as a standalone Marvel character film.
