Diagnosing my hard drive cable problem
I bought this for my Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2009) that was having difficulty accessing the hard drive upon boot up (wouldn't start up into the OS, instead it showed a file folder icon with a question mark). I googled support pages that said it could be (1) a faulty hard drive, (2) a faulty hard drive cable, or (3) a loose connection between the hard drive and the hard drive cable. I confirmed that (3) wasn't a problem. Next, after swapping my hard drive out into another macbook to confirm that it was still working, I determined the problem wasn't (1). I decided to swap out the hard drive cable with this replacement part from amazon, put the hard drive back in, and everything worked again. The most challenging part is dealing with the adhesive backing, which is to say, its not that difficult. The cable looks like an exact replacement for the apple part, and it works. The part shipped quickly and was decently packaged. It saved me from getting another laptop so yay.

Delicate but important Drive cable - includes IR module!
At the time I ordered this, somehow I damaged the original HDD cable inside a 13" MacBook Pro I was upgrading. The advantage of this newer HDD cable is it actually has the IR module attached to it, otherwise IR functions would not function at all when trying to operate the MacBook Pro.

I have never opened up a computer and am not very good at projects
Have a mac book crashed flashing folder tried everything then heard about this...computer had been crashed a couple months then along came this magic solution. Was very upset because I dont use time machine so thought all was forever lost. I have never opened up a computer and am not very good at projects, but thanks to youtube I did this easy and felt like a computer technician. If your macbook pro crashed I would try this for sure. First thing I did was buy a 2TB harddrive and back up everything.

thought it was a bad hard drive but turns out it was the hard ...
a month ago my macbook pro (13 inch, mid 2010) got the blue screen of death and would not boot up. thought it was a bad hard drive but turns out it was the hard drive cable. ordered this and followed the step by step procedure (found on the internet through ifixit). the last step -- removing the gold ribbon from the tiny clamp -- was the trickiest. now computer boots up fine and am writing this review from said computer.

What a bad product design- at least it's an easy fix
Fixed my computer and it hasn't died yet. I got it about 5 months ago. 2nd time I have had to replace this thing. What a bad product design- at least it's an easy fix! If your Macbook Pro 2009 doesn't recognize your hard drive anymore and you are unable to unmount it try replacing this first over the hard drive - it's a mistake I have made that you can learn from.

Do not buy this cable. Get one with the IR sensor cable already connected to a new bracket so you know it fits! Cheap is dear!
The cable does not fit exactly. You can not connect the IR sensor cable as the cable does not fit the original bracket. I tried to go cheap but you get burnt! For $10 more you can get a cable that comes with a new IR bracket and already attached. Live and learn. Cheap is dear. I can not tell if my MacBook pro 13 inch 2010 is charging or charged. The LED that tells you it is on when the caver is closed does not work. Very disappointed with this product. Now I have to pay another $25+ dollars and spend more time to do the job 2x. What a waste.

A great solution
Works perfectly. It includes the adhesive to attach it like the normal cable. It's dummy proof. The only hell you will catch is attaching it to the chip on the side. You only catch hell if you don't know what you are doing. Other than that, it's a perfect replacement.

Did the trick !
I thought I had a issue with hard drive on MacBook pro 2009 model. After replacing hard drive I still could not boot up. Geek squad wanted $150 to tell me what was wrong. Did some research and found the likely issue was this ribbon cable. Ordered (fast shipping) replaced easily, and worked. Hard to beat for the money!
