This is one of the few books about the life and times of Babasahib Ambedkar. I donot understand why so little has been written on Ambedkar who worked all his life for uplifting of the dalit and the untouchables. It may be the fact that he was a mahar,and perhaps still the reason why he is still not very much researched or written about. He was the most educated and brilliant man of his times and an expert in economics in those days when even the subject name was not known to Indians. He was a patriot but worked for social welfare only because he felt that if India got Independence, the dalits, untouchables and tribes will be tortured and sidelined in modern india. It was genuine fear. But when 1946 it was certain that india will get Independence, he got placed in drafting committee for constitution. He made sure that equal rights and liberties were given even to the most underprivileged and depressed classes. It was his idea of India.It is an excellent read to understand how dalits and untouchables were treated in 1920-30 India. How miserable was there situation. And how Ambedkar could help them be aware about their rights and exhorted them to stand as equal citizens of India as well as Hindu in face of gross inequality and social segregation.I salute this great man. But I wish he did not bow down before these Congressi people and supported parliamentary form of govt which is majoritaran in nature with no check and balance and stuck to his own idea about United States of India with greater federalism and check and balance. He himself in 1952 said how he himself will be the first to tear the constitution. We now see how majoritarian our constitution is and how fragile our liberty and equality is. This should be read to understand how we, the hindus, discriminated and how the history should not be repeated, no matter whose Govt. is there in power. Long live minority right to life and liberty, whether that minority is a dalit, Adivasi, or a Muslim.As a warning, it is to be stated that dhananjay keer (writer) is a Sarvarkar fan and RSS ideologue, so Muslims are not presented in a good light although Ambedkar always got support from Muslim community and caste hindus hated and criticized him. Ambedkar personally never saw any religious or other minority community with shades of hate, rather he supported adequate protection for all minority. Ambedkar was ideologically against Hinduism itself due to casteism and therefore,even decided to convert to buddhism. Author portrayal of Ambedkar as a Hindu supporter is factually incorrect and was done for support of RSS ideology. Further, the book is filled with silly mistakes which could have been avoided by editors.It is recommended to read "Annihilation of caste" to understand Ambedkar criticism of Hinduism.
