Gifted and Talented COGAT Test Prep: Gifted Test Prep Book for the COGAT Level 7; Workbook for Children in Grade 1

I love the visuals in this book, very appealing and colourful. The whole book is well organised, clearly explained and well presented. The added bonus is the idea of getting children interested enough to want to be a member of the Gifted Detective Agency, just brilliant. The children don't just work hard at these questions, they have fun too which I believe is very important. I remember doing these types of tests when I was a child, but they were never as interesting as this. I think they are an excellent way of helping any child develop their skill and I would recommend them to all parents.

This is another workbook for gifted and talented children which I find useful. I could find no fault with it and recommend it.

This is a wonderful educational resource that deserves the highest praise. Aimed at preparing first grade students (5-7 year-olds) in the U.S. for the COGAT Gifted and Talented Abilities Test, it delivers on every score. For a start, I was very impressed by the book’s visual appeal. It is bright and colourful and extremely eye catching, which entices children to look inside. The interior’s overall format is equally impressive. It is organized into five clearly explained sections, starting with an excellent Introduction to explain what the book is about and how to use it. The Workbook is a collection of varied skill-building activities to be worked through together by parent and child, the parental role being to ensure the child understands the question, but not to give away the answers! (There is an answer page in Section 4). The skill-building activities include, amongst others, those that measure reasoning skills, identification of similarities and differences, pattern completion, quantitative and spatial concepts, number puzzles and analogies, and even paper-folding puzzles. All are presented with colourful, easily identifiable images, making the activities fun to do. Once the child has completed the preparatory Workbook, the Practice Paper can be done. Again, this is presented with clear instructions regarding how it should be administered and is set out in the same colourful way as the Workbook. The thing that will really appeal to kids is the challenge to become a member of the Gifted Detective Agency, with a certificate to cut out to go with it. This is an extra incentive for them to try hard while still being a lot of fun. Overall, the book is a great resource for helping children in the U.S. to prepare for the Level 7 COGAT test. It is also excellent as a general workbook for helping any child to improve his/her cognitive and reasoning skills in a fun and enjoyable way. As such, it could be used equally well in the UK.

Good resource to practice and review cogat topics

My 4 yr old son loves it . Will buy the next level after he finish this .

Great book! Gives you something to aim for when it comes to developing your child's logic and problem solving skills. No matter what you learn in life, those two are the most important skills and knowledge you can teach your kid. Even if they are not getting advanced scores, the problems can be used outside of the age range recommended. Make your kids exercise their brains! This book shouldn't have shipped like this. There is a cut through the cover and into a few pages. I kept it though because I didn't want to go through the whole process and wait more.

Book is colorful, made of good quality paper. Everything (directions for the different question types with examples) is explained very well. Questions are pretty challenging at times, which is good. The book comes with 2 practice and one test. The few things I would like to see changed- Have a scantron or something at the end of the book so, kids don’t have to mark on the bubbles on the actual question, and maybe have an additional test. Little pricey but was still worth it. I used it for helping my kid’s prep for their CoGAT (the exam format) and more for road trips to keep them busy outside of puzzles and coloring.
