Does the job very nicely, so far...
It seems 50/50 whether you receive the lined or unlined version of this item - thankfully I received the lined version I was hoping for. The wood and workmanship is not of a great standard but, heck, it's a boot pull for not that much money and IT DOES A REALLY NICE JOB of allowing me to SO easily remove my beloved (but zipperless) Frye leather boots without undue strain to me or my boot. The padding is attached with glue and staples and so, as recommended by other reviewers, I'm checking regularly to ensure the staples are still in place and not coming loose or likely to damage my boots. So far so good. As for how well this item will hold up I can't say but it works perfectly for the time being. Some people complained about how narrow the part where you slide your heel in is. True, it does look very narrow but it doesn't seem to matter one dot for me. My size nines fit far enough in to remove the boot with no problem whatsoever for me or my boot! I can't comment on whether or not a hefty work boot would fit.

Works with shoes as well.
The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is because of the time it takes to flip this jack into place. It is definitely not a deal breaker just irritating when it flips over before I get my other foot to hold it in place. But once that bad boy is in place it works like a charm!! I pull of my gym shoes with it; my Uggs boots, Minnetonka boots, and all other boots I have as well as my cowboy boots. I love the felt lining arount the edges so it doesn't scar my suede boots when I am taking them off. I am about to purchase one for my mom. A Must Have for boot owners!

Not Same as First One I Bought!
I am disappointed with Amazon! I had purchased this item about a month ago. I liked the item. Especially the leather liner on the jack horn and the rubber on the areas the jack rests on the floor (helps it from slipping).I immediately ordered another one to use at work. It just arrived. The boot jack is a completely different model and construction than the one I first ordered. There is no leather on the horn and no rubber on the base of the jack. There is a rubber "tread" piece inletted and brass tacked on the top surface to stand on while you use the jack.Amazon needs to do a lot better updating their descriptions and item photos than they do currently. I have noticed Amazon actually has been getting worse in that regards.

Not a solid piece of wood!
First of all, the boot jack I received appear to be a little different than the one pictured. There was no leather strapping attached to prevent marring your boot heel from the wood. The quality would have been great if it was a solid piece of carved wood. Instead, it was two pieces glued together which split from top to bottom after the third use. This I can tell because of the two different grains. I will have to re-glue it and run some small screws through the side to reinforce it from coming apart again because its to late to return it.They did change the staples on top that reinforced the rubber sole grip and used some nice looking brass round thumb tacks.

Fine Quality-- Too Narrow
This boot jack is made well and looks like it will stand up to daily use removing snug tall boots, however the opening is too small for even a women's size 10. I would highly recommend the boot for ladies with small feet or for casual/dress boots. It will be far less effective for riding boots or work boots.

Disappointed in this item
When I first tried this boot jack, I thought I must have been sent one for youth or small women's boots. The opening is too small for my "B" width boot heal to fit into for a good grip. I have tried to use it a few times and have decided to write it off as a bad purchase. The leather in the opening seems to be attached well but the rubber grip on the top is attached with staples, giving it a cheap look.

it does what it should
The only gripe I have is that it's a little light and won't quite sit where you need it to without it shifting around a lot. that being said, it does exactly what I need it to and does it fairly well. I do get a little slippage off of it when trying to remove really tight boots but not enough for it to be a problem.

Just the thing!
Other reviewers have commented negatively on how "cheaply" made this boot jack is. And it is rather simple in its design and construction. But let's face it, ALL it has to do is grab your heel and help pull your boot off. Which it does VERY well. One guy complained that the space for the heel was too narrow ... that's the way they're supposed to be; you only want your heel wedged in at the outer edge of the curvy part. For anyone with arthritis or just doesn't want to pull off their boots manually, this little baby is worth its weight in gold.
