CAPTAIN MARVEL VOL. 1: HIGHER, FURTHER, FASTER, MORE

Captain Marvel In Space!
After the last two books have dwelt on Carol losing her ability to fly (without extreme pain or mental damage), this book goes into a bold new direction. It starts with the cover for Issue 1 that screams that Carol Danvers is ready to go into action and the title of this collection defines its theme well.If there are rough spots in this book, it's in Issue 1 where the book begins with a cut-scene from events that we won't actually get back to until Issue 5. (I only had to flip through 80 pages, people who read the comic had to wait four months). I was also a little bothered by the conversation with the pilot/boyfriend.The only other problem is that part of the motivation for her not being sure where she belongs and to take this journey into space is that her mind was affected in the last story leaving her with some uncertainty. Given that, she seems to remember a lot of obscure continuity stuff. At any rate, Carol is deployed to space by the Avengers to return a child to a planet where she escaped in a pod with hope of getting in touch with Spider-woman but having to settle for Captain Marvel. Along the way, we get a nice two issue cameo with Guardians of the Galaxy and then Carol gets to an alien plant that Emperor J'son is demanding to evacuate. She and a ragtag team from the planet investigate and find something sinister going on.Even after ordered to leave, Carol refuses to let the Emperor force the Colonist of Tofra and delivers a stirring action speech at the end of Issue 5, "They are a peaceful people, but I am a woman of war. If you move against them, you move against me. I'm willing to die here today for this cause. I've made my choice, now you make yours." It was an awesome moment, given that she was speaking to a full page of battleships.Marvel has been rediscovering the joys of space adventures. While the Silver Surfer feels much like Doctor Who, this Captain Marvel adventure feels like something out of Star Trek. She's far from home and the only representative of the Avengers in outer space. She has to make her own decisions and hope that anyone who needs to approve does. It's like Captain Kirk without a crew and a lot less regulation.Overall, this was a great book and a nice new direction for Carol Danvers.

Carol's back, I'd say better than ever but you can't improve on perfection!!
I'm somewhat of a fanboy and get everything "Carol Danvers", even the flops. While I still don't like the suit I'm getting used to it and when it boils down to it the only thing that matters is that Carol is still Marvel, Captain or otherwise and she's awesome! Carol is a fantastic stand alone character with a ton of power and this book reminds people of that or shows them what an individual she is outside of the Avengers. Like a large number of Carol Danvers fans I'm praying they make a movie for her starring Katee Salkhoff (Hey Disney! Pay her whatever she wants!!). Great artwork and story shows this book has endless possibilities and GOTG crossovers and hopefully more away from "earthcenterofthedamnuniverse'" stories. More please!

I liked the feel and look of the book
I wasn't sure what kind of story to expect. I'd picked this up on Kindle when there was a $5 sale on a bunch of Marvel volumes.I liked the feel and look of the book. It kind of lent a bit of an old school space opera vibe with very subtle hints to remind you the lead is a woman (and without leaning on a pregnancy or dependency on a boyfriend/husband). In fact, she puts her love life on hold fairly early so she can focus on herself (not her career, but herself which I feel is an important distinction to make). All in all, I could maybe read the next volume and see where this leads.

If you like Guardians of the Galaxy then you will really have fun with this story.
I really enjoyed this story. It was fun to see a super hero in space. But that was a little different. If you like Guardians of the Galaxy then you will really have fun with this story. Captain Marvel is a strong brave hero who has to face obstacles in a world she doesn't know and deals with a culture she doesn't understand and it turns into something bigger than she understood.

Started off slow but finished strong
Good introduction for someone who is new to Captain Marvel. I will say that the side characters weren't exactly fleshed out the best, but MAN that final issue really set it over the edge. Definitely worth checking out if your the least bit curious.

An all-around badass gal!
Lately, I have been obsessed with finding books, any kind of books that features a strong female lead with humor. Look no further than here! But you shouldn’t stop looking either... 😁

Nice introduction
I read a ton of a marvel comics when I was a kid, but wasn’t introduced to Captain Marvel. I picked this up in advance of her solo movie. Good introduction of a solid character.

So good, and great artwork
It's so good! Well worth getting, I'm definitely going to get volume 2 now.If you've seen the recent Captain Marvel film, there's scenes in this which are similar so you can kinda imagine how awesome it would be to see "in real life" too. And if you're fairly new to Captain Marvel (like me), then this acts as a good introduction to the character and her world, you're never left feeling out of the loop while reading this story.

Disappointed
I had high hopes for Captain Marvel but it proved to be a disappointing storyline. Not an easy ‘put down and pick up another day’ GN and political crap is enough to leave dissatisfied with the read. Artwork was ok. I’ve seen and done better myself. Storyline was Confusing to political to 2 or 3 pages of what could’ve made a better more acceptable story. I’ll probably read another Captain Marvel in the future but to be honest I’m not in any rush.

Nope
Honestly just don't, it's not well written, it's not very interesting, the character comes off as just bland. Just stop.

Fun
Have to admit I hadn't heard of Capt. Marvel before the film, which I still haven't seen. But I was thoroughly entertained and engaged by this book.I will be adding more of her to my reading list.
