The Screen is a Masterpiece!
This is truly a remarkable device, it's very quick to set up, easy to use, feels solid and well built, and is of exceptional quality. The Screen is an absolute masterpiece, and is a sight to behold. No glare, no pesky reflections and the colours are amazing, genius!!! The phone is very responsive and quick and all the apps work perfectly with no lag. It comes beautifully packaged and includes a protective magnetic case and includes the Tpen, which is probably the best I have ever used on any device. It really is like writing on paper. Lastly, the Camera is fantastic, takes great photos, easy to use, and the results are outstanding. To Summarise its an absolutely great phone, and extremely well priced!!!

Premium high quality feel for less
I've never been someone to buy flagship Samsung's and iPhones for the sake of having the best of the best only to replace it in a years time, however I still wanted something that had a premium feel and was different to the boring devices everyone else has. TCL is a chinese electronics company that I had never bought anything from, but after doing my research discovered them to actually make quality products and I can say this definitely has a premium feel to it. I don't particularly suffer from headaches/eye strain but I liked the idea of a matte/no glare display and the NXTPAPER technology, which I can readily recommend after using the phone for a few weeks. This is a massive screen, and with the included case does to be honest make it difficult to cram into your trouser or coat pocket quickly so keep that in mind. The colours despite being a bit more subdued and less "offensive" to the eye are still very vibrant, and the 120Hz refresh rate carries over to the NXTPAPER ink modes, which really do look like a Kindle (with the massively increased battery life in these modes included), and it's literally impossible to get fingerprints on the screen, which by the way just feels (and sounds?) nice to use. I often catch myself admiring the display while it's playing a video if I'm cooking for example, the way the light catches (or doesn't catch it) is just very nice to look at, you kind of have to see it to appreciate it. I am someone who regrettably uses my phone in bed before sleeping, but with this phone I turn on the eye comfort & NXTPAPER modes and I can honestly say I actually fall asleep easier and quicker especially if I use it to read. It's fast and smooth with no issues switching between apps, the cameras are great, battery life is not an issue and charges quickly enough (wish it had wireless charging though, and it doesn't come with a charging plug - just a cable which is pretty standard these days), the fingerprint scanner and all the physical buttons work well and feel satisfying to use, and I actually find myself using the AI features. The case it comes with is decent and cleverly designed. There's a snug case you put the phone in, which then magnetically attaches to the also included flip case which has space for the included stylus. You'll probably want to make sure you're using the flip case that covers the screen as you won't be buying a screen protector for this phone. Speaking of the stylus, it works very well and is satisfying to use for drawing and handwriting if you are so inclined. The drawback however is how it attaches to the phone (or rather the inner case I mentioned). There are notches on the side of the case that you physically push the stylus into, but I've found it falls off easily if bumped so I generally don't have the stylus attached - it would be better if it was magnetic. I don't really game on my phone I have a PC for that, and there are other devices more tailored for it, but I did test Wuthering Waves briefly as I know that's a demanding game, and when it finally downloaded I didn't experience any stuttering. I'd say it's "almost flagship" but at half the price, and with the added technology and display I'd easily take this over a brand new iPhone or high end Samsung.

Autistic sensory issues
So, it seems like a good phone, but it's really not me compatable. I could not use the stylus as it was so noisy, even swiping with my finger was noisy on the textured screen. The screen was easier to look at than a Samsung S25 because of the dc dimming so it's great for pwm sensitive people, but it's also a little too soft (mild blurring from the texture) and it has temporal dithering. I could not look at it for long and touching it was uncomfortable, but I'm autistic and have sensory issues so that's why I describe it as not me compatable. As for the more normal type of things average people may be concerned with... It is flipping massive! The stylus holder is inconvenient, and the flip case was meh. It would have been better if it had a 6.9 inch screen and if the stylus holder could be attached either side and the flip case maybe folded at the top not the side. But this phone is so close to being good for eye strain but then fails, drop the temporal dithering and half the texture on the screen, keep it ips, and make it just a touch smaller and it would be an epic phone! So I returned it, unfortunately it did give me dizziness after about 30 mins and the screen feel was too much for my autistic sensory issues.

Eyes feel much better
I absolutely love the screen on this TCL 60 Nxtpaper Ultra! The matte finish is incredibly comfortable to look at, and I’ve noticed a significant reduction in eye strain since switching. My previous phone, a Samsung A56, had an OLED display that made my eyes feel heavy and caused headaches. After doing some research, I realised this was likely due to Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)—the rapid flickering OLEDs use to control brightness. The TCL’s LCD screen is PWM-free and TUV-certified for low blue light, which has completely eliminated my headaches. Beyond the screen, the performance is solid. Even with 208 apps installed, the phone feels fast and responsive. Connectivity is excellent; I rely on eSIM for traveling, and it works flawlessly. Android Auto, VoWiFi, Wi-Fi 6, and 5G have all been stable, and the Bluetooth connection to my gym’s spinning bike is seamless. The camera is good quality and images come out well both day and night ,(photos of my recent trips attached that I took with the phone) It really has everything I need. Now I just hope TCL releases a Nxtpaper monitor and TV to match! Recently TCL have partnered with Sony to supply there TVs, don't be worried this is not a small brand name P.S. If you want the stylus included, make sure to grab the 512GB version

Brilliant idea
The idea behind this phone is fantastic, and when it works as it should, it feels like a phenomenal device. The camera performs decently in natural light and the speakers are impressively loud. The screen is vibrant when in normal mode. However, within just a couple of days of light testing, the performance became very slow and choppy. Despite the advertised 120Hz refresh rate, it often felt closer to 30Hz and freezing, which isn’t right. To add to the concern, my unit arrived unsealed, leaving me to believe I may have received a defective one.

Excellent combination of phone and ereader
I have only had the phone a few days. However, it seems the perfect phone for me. There are various modes to choose, basically levels between colour phone and black and white ereader. In between plenty of controls over the look of the screen. The size is perfect for an ereader on my travels. As a phone it is large but feels good in the hand, not heavy or bulky. Although running android 15 it does not seem to have the private space function and also if you want to share the screen you can "cast" the screen via wifi, but plugging in a small second monitor as I sometimes do with my Samsungs does not work. The stylus is excellent and the screen cover texture is similar to paper. Unless you are an avid kindle Kobo etc fan, I would say this works very well as am ereader. Loads of memory for storage and the operation is very smooth. Battery life is very good, but I am over using it at the moment with it being new, so in normal use I think I will get a few days out of a charge, especially if I use it in colour ink mode. The accessories seem well thought out. A case plus magnetic cover. There is an attachable tube to keep the stylus. Even with all attached, I don't find it over bulky, and the case is very, "note book" like.

Bluetooth drains battery TCL override security and contacts you through the OS while harvesting data
Okay, I start out by making it clear I have purchased Asian phones for the past 12 years. The reason is simple, google services cannot be installed hence, no tracking. The first thing that struck me (and perhaps this is normal for Western phones) is every app by default has 'allow background usage' and 'allow mobile data in the background'. Personally, I do not want any app to run in the background constantly or have access to mobile data whenever they feel like. I have little use for data and most apps (to me a phone is for making calls only) as phone screens are too small for documents etc and therefore use on an average month 15Mb (yes, Mb). With this phone, even if I edit all I can to not disable access to mobile data, I would still use far more due to the apps that cannot be disabled from using it in the background. I will mention some soon. The amount of bloatware and garbage pre-installed is also a shock as Chinese market phones have none. A few can be deleted, a few disabled, but most you cannot even block them from having certain permissions. For example, a number of apps when you click on 'manage battery usage', allow background usage or background data cannot be disabled. Just to name a few, Demo Mode, files and book also has full access to all permissions such has call logs, contacts, location etc, cannot be disabled or deleted, Smart voice memo, smart voice translator, personal safety, content centre, news plus others cannot be removed. I'm unsure what the 'eye comfort' actually does other than turn the lighting a shade of yellow. Ironically, with eye comfort enabled, I had a migraine within ten minutes. First time that has happened since fist having to purchase a mobile back in 1992 (agents needed to contact me quickly to book me as a keyboard player). Some have said the size of the phone is too large. Well, my Huawei handset is also 7.18", but is 4mm longer and 3mm wider so do not see the issue. Comparing it to my nephews iphone (pro max), it is a fraction larger but not so you would notice if seeing them both on a table. Personally, I expected it to be a little larger. I appreciate I have been spoiled by the superiority of Chinese market phones, but I find these issues unacceptable. You should be able to decide what applications you want installed on your phone; at least allow the user to disable trash they do not want (AI features, so called 'smart' apps). One thing I am very annoyed at after checking how much power apps are using, Books (which you have no control over) has used 14% of the battery in the 30 minutes I have been setting up the phone. Considering I do not even want the app, it is draining the battery considerably for no reason I can see. It has not been opened so why is it draining the battery? Looking at its permissions and then clicking the app, it warns you that any book you download or import gets analysed (the title, its contents etc) and sends the information including your google account info and IMEI back to TCL. Why they need all this information I do not know. With security being such an issue in the world today, I am extremely uncomfortable with any of my information being analysed and sent to any organisation; a reason why I have only used handsets the past 12+ years that are blocked from installing google framework (The Chinese government have a policy that their staff can not use handsets that are tracked at any level which google proudly boasts of doing even if location settings are off (the overall settings are bypassed for google framework). This level of snooping is a deal-breaker for me without even considering any of the other points I take issue with. If the permissions, tracking, snooping and apps that can not be deleted or disabled is normal for Western phones then I guess this review is irrelevant. For me, not having access to every app's permission is a no-no. I do not have a contract with data (as already mentioned as I cannot see any use for mobile data (and I worked in IT) unless perhaps you use UNsocial media such as the Twatter, Farcebook or Instagrim which I also see no practical use for (other than wrecking society; my niece and her friends are examples (in their early 20's) do not answer calls anymore and only respond to sms or some form of messenger. She tells me no one uses a phone to speak with anymore!) I connected this to the fast charger I keep in a drawer and a message instantly appeared to say a fast charger had not been detected. Odd as it chargers an ip[hone pro max quickly and states a quick charger is connected. I then used their included cable (I hate morons who supply USB c to USB c as my PC does not have a USB c port nor my normal charger) and had the same message. Last point, after letting it install the trash TCL has been paid to include (while setting the phone up) and then deleting or disabling each one, the handset now refuses to turn off. A full reset sorted the power off issue but I have not set it up again as it is being returned. If this was priced around the £200 mark it would be a reasonable buy, but at almost £500 (to me a premium price), you can have a 'real' branded phone for about the same price making this vastly over-priced when you consider their new NXTpsper 70 is released for only £288 (8Gb/512Gb). These unknown 'Clint Eastwood' (no name as in the western films) brands just out-price themselves. Personally, I'll look online again for a new Asian handset that does not have google services installed and full permission access for the apps. I certainly do not want any app using mobile data when I'm charged by the Mb. EDIT: I set the phone up again but with copying my apps across to give it another two days testing to try and be fair. I, have however just discovered it also does not support wireless charging. That's a shocker for any mobile released in the last five years; even budget models offer that (my now aging Huawei does). Also, when you flick the switch to use their version of simulated e-ink, the book app opens its bookshelf (though I did try and open one of its books but had a message saying no network even though I was connected to wifi. Perhaps this is why it ate so much battery when initially setting the phone up. I was able to run the kindle app but once closed, 'books' opened its bookshelf page again. My advise to anyone buying this phone (or another android) is to download an app I just discovered called 'netguard'. With it you can decide what apps have wifi or mobile data access. If you delve into the options, you can also see the system apps and deny them too if you wish (every system app and 90& of installed apps have both wifi and mobile data disabled). You can turn the whole firewall off or on with one button too. I am not affiliated with the app but impressed by it. *New Update* Due to issues getting it returned (my Chinese market handset doesn't have an email app (google services/framework cannot be installed) and I do not use mobile data) at a post office as I could not get the qr code to work or load, I ended up keeping this. I never use or enable mobile data, location and rarely use bluetooth or wifi and have every app and android system app set to not run in the background (I only use a phone for calls and around 4 or 5 text messages per month. I will however be using this phone for reading kindle ebooks). Having charged it last night (PD 3.0 charger yet took over 4 hours to get from 39% to 98%), I did not use the phone until 1 pm today. After an eight minute call, the battery level is now 60%. I did not take note of the battery level before receiving the phone call. As said, every app that can be changed to not run in the background has been changed. It is somewhat worrying the battery level dropped by 38% when it was only used for under 10 minutes. Of course the battery level will drop when not in use since certain core functions run continuously, and I have now contacted TCL for an explanation and will add their answer to this review once received. **Still no reply from TCL, but the battery life has now improved; perhaps it needed some time to 'settle'. BUT, they have now started sending me reviews and surveys directly to the phone using their TCSCore app which you cannot disable or remove privileges for notifications and being able to use mobile data or wifi (I have this blocked from wifi with a firewall yet they still bypassed it). Unfortunately, they have tied TCSCore into the phones OS. This is not acceptable even if there were an option to unsubscribe from this spam (which there is not). A telephone Company being able to use its own OS additions to Android to bypass security and be able to access the phones contents without your knowledge or send you direct messages via their TCSCore app just makes me wonder what data they are also harvesting. Incidentally, battery life is good as long as bluetooth is not used. As a test to see what is really draining my battery, I left bluetooth on at 11ish at night and checked it again when I got up at 7am and just over 40% of the battery had gone. Considering the screen had not been on for that time period, or the phone used in any way, this is a real problem. Checking my math, using bluetooth devourers 10% battery every two hours you have it enabled. My nephew tells me his iphone battery level does not drop noticeably with bluetooth and is always on. He uses wifi and mobile data throughout the day and he gets a minimum of 2.5 days life from each charge. I suspect this TCL has a fault, but as TCL will not reply after contacting their support department from their homepage, I have no way of finding out. Over the past two weeks I have warmed to the matte screen and their version of e-ink (also depletes the battery at a faster rate; maybe if used outside in the sun, but inside where you have to have some backlight, it just eats the battery, so cannot see where they come up with 7 days of use using the NXTPAPER KEY (they have now removed that claim)), but with the issues mentioned, I have no option but to open a return as I suspect it to be faulty.

Nice large matt non reflective screen with natural light feature
Upgraded from an Alcatel 3X 2020 & prior to that an Alcatel 5V. Bought the TCL NXTPAPER 60 Ultra 512GB with the magnetic case & stylus. The m latt screen is a significant improvement as it does cut out almost all reflection. Also the option to have a black screen generally instead of the standard white back drop is also a good change for the eyes. I had attached magnets to the back of my old phone & bought a clear soft plastic/ rubber case. The case on this is already magnetised. I would have preferred if the corners were more rounded with a softer material which would make it easier to hold. This is a hard smooth plastic which is more difficult to manage in all respects. Both the inner & outer cases are magnetised. I already used a stylus with the 3X. This stylus has a very pointed nib which is better. The attachment case for it is good but the hooks to attach into the phone case itself are not very good & are a flaw as particularly the bottom hook comes away from the phone very easily. I would prefer if the outer case was made of something more tactile instead of a sort of rubbery plastic. The outer case with flap is probably a necessity bcos of the matt screen which is more prone to scratching. The outer case is quite bulky. The stylus itself has an inbuilt click feature for erasing on screen notes which is good. The on screen writing is also good. Other than that the phone is user friendly. The 512 GB storage is also good as you are not worrying about what to delete to free up memory. That problem is truly out the window.

lovaly pen-enabled e-ink like smartphone
PROs -Good price compared to alternatives with a pen -Very nice smartphone overall - The matte screen is beautiful, with zero reflections. Colors are astonishing - The display has a soft, paper-like texture that you can feel when touching it—very pleasant - Reduced eye strain thanks to 4 modes: normal mode, color-reduced mode, full black-and-white, and E-Ink mode - Larger-than-usual screen, making reading more comfortable - The camera is good - Plenty of storage and RAM - The EMR pen (to be purchased separately) is excellent. I bought this phone to replace my Samsung Note 8, and I’m not disappointed—it feels even more like writing on paper than Samsung’s S Pen (which I also like) - The pen slot is attached to the case. I was skeptical at first, but it works very well - Horizontal split-screen is supported natively-nice! - The pre-installed handwritten notes app is very good - Good battery CONs - no usb-c hdmi output, and casting to tv does not work very well (only u-tube ...) - The size and height (especially with the 2 cases) might be an issue for some users - Ships with Android 15 instead of Android 16 - No zoom box feature in the native note-taking app--a clear disappointment - Not yet the same as an e-ink device -but a lost faster, and still a lot better than traditional screens

Ottimo

Great phone.
Absolute beast of a phone, although most of the specs are mid range, it's more than enough for the average phone user, the cameras are great, battery life solid, the screen is top notch, it comes with a supplied case.

Pantalla espectacular
