The Sixty-Nine Stations of the Kisokaido Hardcover – September 17, 2008

This book has a brief introduction, map of the post stations, and a description for each print. The descriptions tend to be on the brief side and often state the obvious. Sometimes the descriptions could have elaborated more. The kanji characters for the post-station names are not included in the titles. While looking through the book with a Japanese friend, it was pointed out that some of the romanization of the post station names was actually wrong because the author used the modern pronunciation, not the correct reading/pronunciation from the Edo Period.The book is large and is ideally stored flat. The prints are large as well, but do NOT fill up the entire page. There is a lot of white space around the prints. Also there are no close-up views, which I would've liked to see. I believe Taschen's version probably has more vibrant colors and better printing quality, but it comes at double the price and is a more impractical size.All in all, this is a good budget version book to view this series. It is undeniable that this series of prints is amazing! However, the book itself left something to be desired.

I love Hiroshige's works, and these are some of his best, although they may not be as well known as others.

Da amante dell'arte giapponese, non posso che consigliare caldamente questo libro meraviglioso. Un edizione curata e pregiata, ottima la carta, eccellente la qualità della stampa delle immagini. Bellissima la robusta copertina rigida. Adeguato il formato dello stesso volume. Imperdibile.

un format qui rend justice aux planches à défaut de pouvoir s'offrir les originales.Choix des tirages excellent.Le papier est celui d'un livre mais l'éditeur n'a pas commis l'erreur de reproduire en brillant (cf Tokaido en version française détestable).Texte commentaire judicieux et presque suffisant mais en anglais (parfois difficile pour les non parlants?) On peut acheter sans déception et on regarde aprés une planche ou l'autre d'un Japon qu'on ne peut que rêver.L'actuel n'a évidemment rien à voir puisqu'il a bien démoli beaucoup de sites.....

This is really a wonderful book, carefully edited, with all prints pagefilling size on heavy non glossy paper, a true treat for a relative small price.

You have to pay the price for this quality of book but no regrets.It is worth it if you appreciate this japanese story
