One of the best parenting books I have come across! And though the title is a bit misleading, the book is essentially about dealing with your child in a very calm and kind way. I intend to read all books by this author!

A really great book for parenting in a way that is respectful to your children, and focuses on discipline as a teaching opportunity rather than as punishment. The book uses some playful, easy to remember language for certain points (don’t poke the lizard, shark music), and was written in a way that a lay person can easily understand. It was slightly repetitive, but from a psychological perspective this probably helps to drive the message home further. Although I feel like we were doing much of these tactics already, there were loads of things in this book I hadn’t even thought about, and lots of new strategies to try. And i love how the authors wrote it in a completely non judgemental way, and help to remind parents that we’re all human, and that even if we’ve made mistakes in our parenting, we can do better! Definitely a book I feel every parent should read, or at least skim.

Great book, explains a lot and gives you many examples. It was pleasure to read it, might do it again when my daughter grows bigger (she's 2yo now).

So any parents out there whether you are new or old, have had one child or many must read this book. This book has chnaged my perspective on parenting and my relationship with my children. Dan talks about practical advice that will help you rebuild relationships with your children and decrease the drama that is in your household. I know its crazy to think but if you were like me, this is for you. My daughter is not always the most pleasent person to get a long with. She seems to always hit the right buttons and I felt that she was doing it on purpose. Traditional punishments where not working and both my partner and I were at our whits end. The advice and ideas that are in this book really changed my thinking and my mind. It will seem different to you and you may not agree at first but it has been a month and life has gotten better. My daughter is listening, she is talking and reasoning and she is gaining more control over her life. We still have our moments but I think that will happen in any world but they are a lot better. If you are struggling and need some advice or even if you have a great household, this book is still a great read.
