Once Upon a Starry Night: A Book of Constellations

Nice book for upper elementary and middle school.

I love this book. Supposedly, it is for children/young adults, but I am a mature lady and ordered it for myself. I am a great fan of Christine Balit, the illustrator. Her artwork is very personal; style, colorful, mythologically stylized, really enchanting (appropriate) for the subject-matter. All pages depict famous constellations, plus a story on the constellation's ancient mythology. The book is made with quality paper. Everything pleased me very much./ Thank you Amazon !

My 4 year old loves constellations so I thought this would be a perfect book for her. The highly stylized illustrations are gorgeous but I thought they made it slightly difficult to clearly discern the principal stars tht make up the constellation in question. Then the stories, though nicely written, seemed a bit short. But to my surprise, she loves this book. I guess the author/illustrator know what they're doing. She asks for it regularly. It's not particularly good for learning how to locate the constellations in the night sky but that's not its intended purpose. She's a little younger than the age range (6-8 i think it said) in the product description but is still able to understand the stories with a little bit of help (eg explaining "vanity" in the cassiopiea section). Overall, a great book for your little stargazer and quite beautiful to look at. Would purchase again.

The information is nice, the art, while beautiful isn't quite acuate to the stars....some are backwards from the way they should be in the sky.

I am teaching a unit on Space at the local library this month and my age group is Pre-K to K. They really loved this book. The pictures are great and the descriptions of the constellations were well written. Great purchase.

I read this book at our libraries Summer reading Program, "Dream Big". I had children ages 3 - 12 in atendance. The book was well received by all. Of course the younger get very restless anyway. Not because of the book, but by their very nature. I did think the pictures were a bit over colored. IT was hard to see where the stars were.

Beautiful illustrations!Bought this book for a friend's son to take on a camping trip and we were very impressed with how beautiful the book was.I almost kept it for myself!Great read also, we all had a lot of fun reading this book, children and adults!

The pages are beautifully illustrated. Although the content is a little more advanced for my 4 & 7 year olds, it is easy to read to them a page (one constellation) at a time at bedtime & I see this book growing with them, as even my teenagers enjoy it.

En el cole estamos con un proyecto del espacio y en castellano no encontramos ningún libro bonito para los más pequeños relacionado con las constelaciones. Me decidí por este y tengo que decir que ha sido todo un éxito y la propia biblioteca del cole se va a hacer con varios ejemplares. A todos les han encantado las bonitas ilustraciones. Y eso que está en inglés...
