Joan Miro, 1893 - 1983: The Man and His Work

One of the most insightful books ever
The colour plates of Miró's paintings and sculptures are large and perfectly reproduced in this chunky large format hardcover book, and the text is absolutely superb; the author recounts his visits to Miró's house and studio in considerable detail and gives a fascinating insight into not only the artist's personality and philosophy but also his method of working. Refreshingly, the author writes as a discreet observer and gives the reader time to process the account. Equally fascinating are the author's accounts of his conversations with Prats and Artigas, two of Miró's oldest and closest friends. I can't think of any other book about an artist which gives as much insight into his beliefs and creative process as this book does. In fact, the text is so good that the colour plates are a bonus, which says a lot! Very highly recommended

Lovely book full of Miro works.
For the money this is a lovely book on the great man. Full of colour works, some full page. The text is detailed meaning this book offers a genuine fulsome offering for all but the most hardcore Miro fan who might want something more like the Tate Catalogue, if you want to spend that much.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
I bought this book for as a mother's day present for my 80 year old Mum. She thought it was fantastic> Full of good photos and a decent amount of explanatory text.

Good accompanying text, bright images but lack of sculptures
As with most Taschen publications, a very well presented book including Miro's famous paintings and many more of his two-dimensional works. The book is accompanied by Walter Erben's interview with Miro at his 'Sert Studio' in Mallorca. It is well written and Erben displays a strong knowledge of Miro the artist and the man. What stops this book getting five stars is the lack of Miro's sculptures. The book is dominated by paintings but by 1950 Miro had expanded into three-dimensional different media such as sculpture and tapestry as well as murals. Furthermore, although Erben's account is an interesting read, many of Miro's surrealist paintings are left unexplained and not at least critically studied by the author to decipher some meaning. A missed opportunity for a bewildering yet exciting artist.

Good value and efficient service
Good value product and efficient service. There was one page missing which contained an important picture of a Miro painting, this was disappointing.

Miro
This is a lovely book but for some reason which is lost on me it does not have an index. In order to find out whether a specific painting is included I have to trawl through the whole book, which is frustrating and time consuming.
