Q: What are the sizes for both sides? - is 3/4 inch for both male side and female side?

Mine was 3/4" for both sides. Don't know why it would be different unless you needed a reducer.

Is the material lead free?

Nothing is really lead free. The certifications to look for are nsf61 (low leaching of multiple toxins) and NSF372 low lead (<0.25%).  when both are met they list it as NSF-61/9. That said most these backfkow preventer claim to "meet" the lead limit of 0.25 but are not stating they are actually NSF61-9 certified.  Another claim is AB1953 which also limits lead to 0.25. But neither AB1953 or NSF372 on their own confirm the leaching. They also mislead because they are referring to the brass only, not the rubber gasket or the plastic components. Look for the NSF logo and confirm it is for the entire product.

I bought this and it didn't fit. The 3/4" size seems correct, but the thread on my faucet is finer than this. What should I have bought?

These Breakers Are Designed For Laundry Tub Faucets With Threads At The End... It's Called 3/4" NPT (National Pipe Thread)... Anytime You See 3/4" NPT, Your Working With (Garden Hose Threads)... Breakers Aren't Normally Made For Finer Threaded Faucets, Because The Cross Connection Threats Are Designed Out Of The Kitchen & Bathroom Faucets... The Reason Breakers Are Required By Municipalities, Is Because Your Laundry Tub Faucet That Has 3/4" NPT (Garden Hose Threads) Is Because People Install Garden Hoses, Sprayers, etc Onto The End Of These Faucets... When The Garden Hose Attached To A Laundry Tub Faucet Is Sitting In Some Type Of Liquid, Including Water, From The Hose, From The Laundry Tub, From A Bucket, etc, It's Called A Cross Connection... The Reason Breakers Are Installed At The End Of Your Laudry Faucet Is To Prevent Whatever Liquid Is In The Garden Hose Attached To Your Faucet With The "Breaker" Between The Faucet & The Hose... Breakers Prevent Liquids From Being Siphoned Back Through Your Faucet & Into The Water Mains... Example: If There Was A Fire Down The Street, And The Fire Department Was Fighting The Fire, It Would Cause A Negative Water Pressure In Your Area...
