This story takes you back to the miners and how they were treated, this is a good story to read for children and adults the adults will understand why I say this when they read it.

The Nipper
Likewise most other Cathrine Cookson books...this book was hard to put down.At first I thought the story would be around the pony but it developed into a complex story with many strands enveloping the hardship & the kindness of people struggling to put hand to mouth...if you love Cathrine Cookson, you'll love this book too.

Light reading
Easy reading and interesting.Enjoyed the tale of miners and farmers .The evil and dangers of working in mines

What a great story
I loved this book. The horse of the title ends up as a pit pony . A young boy saves his life along with a houseful of people up at the great manor house. A great tale. I can't wait to read more of the Catherine Cookson books I have saved in my library.

A good tale
A typical story from this author, vividly describes life in the coal mine, must have taken a lot of research or perhaps she just has plenty of imagination.

Short read, the Nipper
The nipper was OK but not as good as the silent lady the Nipper was a bit boring &, not long enough.

Not just a Galloway Pony!
Absolutely loved this Catherine Cookson story! Wonderful central character in 'The Nipper' who held this historically based story together well. It is some time since I read a Catherine Cookson book and this one didn't disappoint. Highly recommend it to any fan as it will hold you all the way through.
