Better pay close attention
I thought this was the big brother to our Model 2000, 2-waffle maker, which has delighted us for 20 years. Unfortunately, the V6150 is quite inferior. For those who like this feature, the V6150 allows the two cooking surfaces to be removed and washed (hand wash only). However, they rattle a lot since the manufacturing tolerances are wide and there is only one clip each holding them in. I don't need the ability to switch between waffles and pancakes, and the non-stick in the 2000 works perfectly - no cleaning other than the occasional wipe with a paper towel needed.Speaking of non-stick, I'm not sure what Villaware is using in the V6150. Unlike the 2000, the V6150 seems to use a non-Teflon surface on its cooking surfaces. Maybe that's why the plates have to be removable? FWIW, mixing sufficient butter into the mix obviates the need for greasing the non-stick surface in the 2000.Worse, the V6150 does not feature a beeper to let you know that the setpoint temperature has been met. This is a common feature in waffle makers from all brands and all price points for the last 50 years, and a non-starter when the intended recipient is my aging mum. If there isn't an audible reminder that the waffles are ready, then they are going to get burned.Looking inside the unit, you get a sense why this common feature is missing - the V6150 is extremely cheaply built. Remove the waffle plates and you stare at the calrod. Behind it is a flimsy heat shield (stamped steel) and then outer case - i.e. no other insulation. In other words, this case is going to get just as hot, if not hotter, than the waffle surfaces when under continuous use. Not sure how it passed the various safety accreditation requirements re: surface temperature. At least the Calrods inside the V6150 were bent into squares to allow somewhat even heat distribution. The OEM is really relying on the thermal conductivity of the Aluminum waffle plates to make it happen. So in summary, this parts looks and feels like Villaware outsourced manufacturing the lowest bidder and slapped their sticker on the product. At this price point, I expect a much better product. Thus, I am sending mine back.

Poor heating
Don't buy. Had this for many years now just sitting on a shelf. It takes about 10 minutes per waffle. It never warmed up but the light would indicate it was up to temp.

I bought this Aug. 2005
I never got around to writing a review and am surprised at other reviewers reports. I use this a lot and am very happy with it. It is made very well and the plates clean up like a breeze. I have no idea how it may compare with newer units available today but for having this for 14 years and it's just like new, I think that's an amazing product. I spray the grates with butter flavored 'Pam' and have never had a problem with release or sticking of any kind. I hand wash in hot water with a soft brush and no problems at all.

Does great waffles
Let me preface my review by saying that I bought my VillaWare Belgian Waffle and Multi Baker at Goodwill. For $8. I would never spend $50 or higher (I've seen it for $100) for a gadget in the kitchen. The multi baker part of the appliance is the gadgety part to me. The waffle iron part is great. One has to remember that waffle irons take a while to cook, especially if you want that crispy outside and bready inside taste. With a little patience you can make great waffles with this appliance. The only negative I would say is it's a bit clunky. This is due to the changable cooking plates.

Its a bit low power for crisp waffles...
I bought this lovely waffle iron in a pinch, needing a second iron for a brunch party - and its crisp modular design wooed me away from purchasing a second Hoffritz. This machine makes a great panini grill with the optional grill plates, does a good job with keeping bacon mess to a roar with the griddle plates, and makes a fair grilled cheese. It does not, however, make good waffles."The Best" team of chefs, the ones famous for testing all sorts of equipment and then choosing the best one, HATED this machine for all the same reasons I am luke warm about it:- Lousy heat recovery. The iron recovers slowly after adding batter.- Uneven heat. The top is consistantly lighter than the bottom.- Low overall temp. Waffles don't get cooked fast enough so they get cakey.- The top edges of the iron never fill with batter because of the lower temp.Since none of these issues are present in my Hoffritz quad waffle machine, nor my 2 waffle Villaware, I have to assume that this multipurpose model was designed to do too many things and the quality of the waffles was sacrificed. As a general purpose hot sandwich machine, it does pretty well. It is very good looking, is easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to store - but for waffles, the Hoffritz is better.

I finally tossed mine in the trash where it belongs!
I've owned this alleged waffle maker for years now. About once a year I break it out to make waffles. The one I have heats fine but the non-stick surface it terrible. I've tried the spray-on vegetable coating and even brushing the hot plates with vegetable oil and nothing works. I have tried different type of waffle batter and still nothing works. After I get frustrated and clean the waffle maker up I usually put it away until the next year. But not any more, off to the trash it went. It may be good for some other uses, but a waffle iron that won't make waffles in my opinion is useless.Even though I've shopped on Amazon since the beginning this is the first review that I've written. I've checked the past review of this product and found a "Top 10" reviewer that gave it 5 stars. Of the more then 1600 reviews that she gave, all where 5 stars. She is either extremely lucky or full of the stuff that my ex-waffle maker made.

Waffle maker/Multi-baker
This kitchen appliance is one of the best purchases I have made for the kitchen! It works great as a grill or a waffle maker. Ease of clean-up is what I searched for when looking for a new waffle maker and this product delivers. The heavy plates snap in or release with ease and clean up easily in the sink or dishwasher. The fact that this is a heavy duty product for professional use is a bonus.
