If You Lived 100 Years Ago
E**.
A decent children's book.
Note: I bought this book (If You Lived 100 Years Ago) since I saw it on Amazon's recommended books list and recognized it from my childhood. I may be a bit biased, given that I had a copy as a young child and have a fondness for the book, but I will try to give a fair review of both positives and negatives.Positive aspects of the book:1. Fairly informative and yet still laid out like a younger child could most likely understand the context.2. As it's aimed at younger audiences, there isn't really any bad language or much discussion of wars or disasters.Aspects of the book that are neither good nor bad, or which depend on the buyer's perspective:1. Colorful yet simplistic drawings. They're detailed enough to be interesting, but not overly so. What they lack in detail, however, they make up for in quite a bit of color.2. Focuses on the 1890s, which was 100 years before the time this book was published. For reference, the book was published in 1999 or so. The date of this review is 2020, so it's more accurate to say that this book is about life 130 years ago. Therefore, you might want to clarify to the child that this is bought for (whether a student or your own child) that this was about the 1890s, not the 1920s.Potential negative aspects:1. As stated above, this gives a largely child-friendly version of the history. It is not comprehensive, though you can hardly see any one book as being absolutely a complete story of anything, especially a history book.Hopefully that wasn't too long of a review. I hope that this helps anyone out who is trying to figure out whether or not this is a good fit for their own home, school, or library.

Informative
I enjoyed this book. It is very informative. I was hoping to use it with my kindergarten class, but it is not really made for that grade level. I would recommend it for 2nd grade or older. It does a great job comparing them and now.

You are there!
I bought it for my 9-year-old granddaughter after I visited the tenements in New York. She is a good reader, but I thought the pictures were so good that they would help her understand the subject better. She liked the book, and said her teacher has a lot of others by the same author. I think it makes the reader understand and feel like he is actually there, in words that a kid can understand and experiences they can relate to.

Book about "The Olden Days"
My granddaughter loves to read. After she and her older brother were asking questions about "The Olden Days",(which, by the way, he thought might be sometime around 1980) I thought this might satisfy their curiosity. It gives a fairly good idea of life 100 years ago but I think it does not go far enough in giving a clear picture of how much harder times were back then - not only for adults but for children who often went to work at extremely young ages.

Dated but still interesting
This book is an old book and is written very connected to the year it was published. For example, it says "100 years ago" which is now 120+ years ago. It makes some calculations off, but it has still been very interesting to my kids talking about what life was like around the beginning of the 20th century.

Neat Book
This was more a childs book than I had thought but I nonetheless found it to be very interesting. A lot has changed in the past100 years.

Four Stars
It should be read to children a little at a time. More interesting for inquisitive older children and adults,

This has been a great book for introducing my first-grader to what live was like around 1900. Informative, but fun, with great illustrations.
