The all-time favorite, now in a sturdy board book. There are 28.9 million children under the age of 5 in the U.S. and all of them will need to be toilet trained. This classic book has already helped millions of parents get their children through a life milestone with ease and some entertainment too. With Once Upon a Potty , a parent reads the book to their child or allows the child to read it while on the potty. Not surprisingly, the book takes some wear. This new board book edition will withstand such heavy use and survive the occasional water spill too. This is THE potty training book. It has it all, bright graphics, simple language, fun story and an anatomically correct hero. With an edition for each gender, the book relates directly to the child, making the potty-training process relatable and easy to understand. Review: Great book but need to sub in real words for body parts - It's a classic, every toddler loves this. It shows their body parts in a very matter of fact and respectful way, which kids appreciate, and is has funny parts. The language of private body parts used is outdated but I just sub in the real words. Review: Great book for potty training. - Such a cute book. Good for potty training.

The only potty training books our family ever needed
I had this book in both the girl and boy versions for all 4 of my children. Now purchasing it for my granddaughter. My kids loved this book and will still jokingly respond to the part of the book in the same way they did as toddlers “Was it a flower pot?” Shaking their heads, “Nooooo, it wasn’t a flower pot.” “Was it a bird bath?” “Nooooo, it wasn’t a bird bath”…..

Using for the next generation of potty users
23 years ago I bought the male version of this book for my son while he was potty training. It was the only way I could get him to use the potty. Fast forward almost 25 years later and he has had his first child. Even though she is only a newborn, he remembered this book and requested I purchase it for her to use some day. The pictures are anatomically correct, which may disturb some people, but as a medical family we have always used proper terms and body awareness, so that works. It's a cute book and not child "frilly" per se, but still will make a child giggle and stay engaged. I'm so glad this book was still available to be used for a second generation.

Good Potty Train Reinforcement
I bought this book and "The Potty Book for Girls" for my daughter. I started reading them to her before I was getting ready to potty train. I think it got her comfortable with the idea because once I tried to potty train, she picked it up very quickly. I've continued to read to the book to her for reinforcement and I think it helps her. Personally, I think she likes the "The Potty Book" better because she seems to ask for it more. I would have to agree that the author/illustrators choices of illlustrations is bit odd. My daughter is very inquisitive and will continue to ask me over and over where are we going, what happened?, what is that? You can bet that the old fashioned bed pan which the author/illustrator used to depict a potty elicited a good line of questioning. Sure, I told her it was a potty and eventually she satisfied herself with that answer, but truthfully, it's a bit bizarre that the author/illustrator would choose to depict a potty with something that really looks nothing like a potty which most toddlers are being taught to sit on these days. It's just funny because it asks if it's a vase for flowers or milk bowl for the cat, and quite frankly, it looks more like a vase or milk bowl than potty. As far the other reviewers that say "no big deal," it's not that my daughter was incapable of accepting that it was a potty. I just question why the author/illustrator would illustrate a potty with a chamber when I seriously doubt that anyone used a chamberpot for a potty these days. I think it's a good book with a cute title, but the whole "I, Prudence's mother" and the two pages devoted to bringing a clean diaper, to change the dirty diaper, to take away the dirty diaper, is a little drawn out for me, particuarly because this is a book about potty training not the process to change dirty diapers. Like I said, it's a potty book, and it does the job.

Potty training granddaughter
Cute book, the “boy” version worked for me years ago with my son. I’m hoping that this girl version will help with my granddaughter.

Actually shows things and is helpful for toddlers to 'see' where the stuff comes from
Get this book! It shows poo and body parts in a cute way and you can change the words to whatever you use in your family for certain parts and functions. I don't know what it is but all modern day potty training books refuse to show waste and it's NOT helpful when you're trying to explain and show things to a toddler. Sometimes showing them what you're doing isn't enough. Another book I recommend is the Joaana Cole book 'My Big Girl Potty'

Cute potty book
I got this for my daughter, and it seemed to really grab her attention. My LO is a bit free spirited and potty training is going a bit slow. This book sparked the interest of potty training again for her. It’s a cute story, it’s nice that it talks about the body parts a little bit for a 3YO to understand. It was a good purchase, I recommend this one to anyone going through the potty training process ! My kiddo loves this book.

Great way to start pottytraining
Started this book with my daughter at the same time we started to potty train her. IT was a great tool and really helped her see what to expect and get excited about the potty. On the rare occasion that she would have an accident and not quite make it to the potty, she still says, ¨just like Prudence.¨
