It is an aesthetically pleasing item. The packaging is definitely suitable for a gift. I wanted a reasonable Zen Garden to hold my beach sand from a tranquil place I wanted to remember. Trapped in a glass jar didn’t seem fun. It came with more than enough sand for a deep feel. The tools are good quality, the tines on the rakes are sturdy and the stain finish is smooth quality. Little storks are adorable and the rocks are natural and beautiful. The base is durable and stands evenly on the counter, and the color is not too red. It’s been interesting for different members of the family to make designs, add to each other’s designs. Didn’t realize it really is calming. I am very happy with this purchase, I would get another for a gift.

Great product!

This was a great find! I have been looking for a reasonably priced sand tray for my therapy office. First I tried Kinetic sand. But the adults were not interested. Basically was seeking a fidget for all ages while talking in treatment.. that is relaxing. The Toysmith Deluxe Zen Garden has been a hit with everyone, including myself! First the product is a beautiful cherry wood, packaged well with 2 packs of sand, 3 brushes, rocks, birds, and zen meditations. The sand is beautiful and cool to the touch. It's very relaxing just touching the sand or using one of the brushes. I continue to get asked "where did you get this?" I've had it for 3 weeks now. A little sand has slipped out with play, but nothing significant. And there is so much of it! I really am pleased and highly recommend this for a gift or for yourself;)

I have always enjoyed seeing little Zen gardens in offices, and I wanted one for myself for a long time. I ordered this to put on my desk at work, and I am quite happy with it. It comes with plenty of sand (more than enough to spill some and still have enough to make peaceful designs with the tiny rake). I really enjoy this Zen Garden. My only reason for giving it four stars is that one of the corners has a small chip in it. I am not sure if the chip was made during manufacturing or shipping, but it is not bad and easily hidden by turning the Garden. For the price, it was perfect for someone like me who wasn't really sure what to expect or is new to such elegant and peaceful decor. I like it so much, I kept it at home so I can meditate some place where others will not be wrathing with jealousy. It also came with a meditation book with different quotes for different meditation themes. At first I thought it would be cheesy, but I found it quite nice. Whether you are looking for something to grant you inner peace, an elegant sandbox to make you feel mentally superior to others, or a nice looking desk or bookshelf addition to give you something to do with your fidget hands, this is the one.

Toysmith's Deluxe Zen Garden is a fairly large tabletop zen garden. It comes with white sand, a coupe of bird figurines, a few polished quartzite stones, and miniature rakes and brushes to work the sand. Also included is a little booklet with Buddhist idioms. It's a fairly beautiful piece office kitsch in which you wan rake the sand into geometric designs and place stones as you think they would look the best. Of course, the sand is loose, so spillage is a problem if there's a possibility of it being knocked off. Add your own stones or other baubles to make it your own zen garden.

I may change this review once we actually get this thing set up. As of now, just upon opening the box, I'm immediately unhappy with the color. This was advertised as "rosewood" color, and the picture does indeed show a nice rosewood color. However, the product I received is BRIGHT red, like a stop sign. It's a bit gaudy and ugly looking, it sort of distracts from the whole "zen" thing. Looking at some pictures that others have posted, it appears that I'm not the only one.

I bought this as a gift for my teen daughter. I researched many on Amazon for just the right one as there are many to choose from. The Asian inspired, red sand box has small legs and is quite elegant looking. Quality tools and white smooth sand came with this package and it has lasted well with use after use. She says it calms her to gently play with the sand and create shapes.

I do not believe this is a toy... It is very calming to use, and therefore, it is a form of meditation. The Book of Meditations that it comes with are enlightening quotes, ones that will help you reach peace of mind. The box is well built, and sturdy. It comes with two bags of sand, but one is enough to fill the box. The rocks are not jade as advertised, but they are polished, shiny, and smooth. One of my cranes fell over at first, but I just had to pull one of the legs back and it stands just fine=]. The broom that you use to smooth out the sand when first beginning, and after each use doesn't really work how it is supposed to, but I use the back side, without the bristles and it works out well. The sand is really, really soft, and white, and the box is gorgeous. This is an excellent product. I was so excited to receive it, and now I am so glad to have it.... FOREVER!! I love my new garden. It's fun, and you feel like you have an actual garden to tend to. It's FANTABULOUS... Mine is anyway... Other customers said their box was wobbly due to uneven legs, but mine isn't. If you do not purchase this Zen Garden, I still highly recommend getting one, although, this one seems to be the best one out there.

We got this for our teenage daughter for her birthday and she absolutely loved it! She had mentioned wanting one and she wasn’t disappointed. It came with a little bag of sand, a few rocks, 2 tiny ornamental Crane birds, 2 rakes and a rake brush plus a book of meditation quotes. She wanted to open it right away and when she did, everyone had a chance to experience to calming effects of a Zen Garden. It was a high quality Zen Garden. My only complaint(and it’s trivial) is that I wish the base to the Zen Garden wasn’t part of the box. It would be nice if it was a wooden base and more ornamental.

Good quality

1. The wooden tray came skewed and out of 4 legs, only two lay flat while the other two are raised. The skew is at a diagonal, so two legs opposite, at the diagonal rest at a time. It's pretty shoddy work considering it's just a small wooden box tray. 2. All sand rakes feel too light and are not straight at the least, meaning,- while I appreciate that they are included, it is not satisfying to use them. 3. The sand is not actual sand, but crushed aggregate of sort that kicks up dust so do not pour it out fast and avoid breathing it in. 4. The stones and the two small birds included were a nice touch. Overall, I would not buy this again, and would instead opt to buy better raking tools separately, build a small sand tray and properly glue it together and get plat sand from a home building store all for under $20. This is a time-saver for those who appreciate getting a gift for someone else, but I would not appreciate receiving it.

Looks exactly like picture. Would be nice if it came with more info on techniques, history, etc. The big tool is most effective for designing patterns. The brush tool is too big would prefer a smaller brush and instructions to be included. Overall, it's exactly as it is pictured so no complaints there. It took about a month to arrive though.
