This tool is for the original Colt / GI front sights that swage down into the slide, it is NOT for use with the later aftermarket dovetail sights and slides. The press bar is designed for original GI curved sites, to install aftermarket site requires fitting to press bar to match the press area of the particular sight. Unlike other tools which use a hammer and can slip and dent the slide, this tool works by pushing the front sight in and out of the sight slot by leverage, so no hammering is needed with this tool. Complete with detailed instructions. Ships in the USA only, No export or APO.

some mods needed for trijicon use
Careful if you plan to install a trijicon sight, the force has to be on the shoulders of the sight, not the blade. You'll crush the tritium tube. I ground a channel in the flat plate of the strobel for clearance, and it works like a champ. Considering how many trijcon sights go on1911s' they should offer either a small adapter or justgive you a machined slot on one side, other than that its a well made tool. for the sake of accuracy, file the end of the depth bolt flat, it comes uneven, and will give you different depths, depending on the "o'clock"orientation of the bolt, or .... you could buy the 300$ tool specifically for the trijicon

Great tool
I bought this tool to replace the front sight on my 1911 Colt series 80 Combat Commander with a Meprolight night sight. It worked flawlessly, easily popped out the old sight. Installing the new sight couldn't be done using the instructions provided because the sight manufacturers instruction said you can't use the top or sides of the sight to aid in setting the tenon, however the sight has a flange on both sides so using the sight removal slot in the flat bar, I folded a piece of masking tape and slipped it into the slot to keep from damaging the sight finish them I set it over the sight as you do in removing the old one, the slot bottom of the bar fit squarely on the flanges. so I just tightened down on the anvil bolt and the tenon flattened perfectly, a little touch up with a dremel tool and job completed with no scratches to the S.S. slide. By the way if you ever need to remove a flanged sight just slip a nut over it that is big enough to clear the flanges and use the installation end of the bar for removal.

Great!
This is a fantastic tool. The simple design is easy to work with, but I do suggest milling a channel for a front sight to sit in to help steady your work. Otherwise, great job on an intuitive tool!

A good tool for the job
A good tool for the job. The only issue I had was getting the spreader anvil centered on the post for the staking. It was great at removing the old sight. The instructions were very good.I don't think you could replace a staked front sight without it.

Works good, no complaints.
Sweet!! A great, calm, no hammers and banging way to install that front sight with a tenon. You have to use a special jig to install a tritium sight, but this bit of equipment will be needed as well.

This the best tool for removing 1911 front sights and replacing them ...
This is the one 1911 tool I have been looking for! This the best tool for removing 1911 front sights and replacing them I have ever used. I am talking about a staked in front sight not a dovetail sight.
